Diamond Binta: how to enhance a dream?
Tankoa Yachts is one of boutique shipyards that don’t build much, but each of their vessels is unique and most often full-custom
The 58-metre Diamond Binta is just like this. It is a full-custom yacht with exterior and interior design owed to Francesco Paszkowski Design studio. There is no point in speaking much about the quality of her build. It is enough to mention the fact that the Diamond Binta is the second yacht created by Tankoa for the owner. It is very unlikely that he would have bought a second yacht if he hadn’t been happy with the first one: he just wanted a larger boat for longer voyages and a recognizable style that would reflect his personality and needs.
The first one was a well-known Binta d’Or (or “Bintador” as she’s often dubbed in the yachting community without going too much into spelling subtleties): a 50-metre hybrid yacht from the Tankoa S501 series launched in 2019. The new 58-metre Diamond Binta belongs to the T580 series. Both were developed by Francesco Paszkowski Design studio, but if it is a series, then why does the yard claim that the Diamond Binta is a custom yacht? The reason is that it is not so much a series, but a pre-engineered platform that allows one to create absolutely different yachts not only in terms of outfitting, interiors and layouts. Thus, while preserving the same stylistic features, the superstructure can be absolutely different, as the T580 may have both a three and a four-deck configuration. The series’ motto is “the space that you deserve”, and there is a lot of space here, indeed, to be able to tailor it as one likes.
Another important note here is that the Diamond Binta is the first unit in the T580 series, so one can say that the whole series was developed in accordance with a particular owner’s wishes. According to the yard, the creation of the Diamond Binta did not start from scratch, but from revisiting the owner’s evolving tastes and aspirations, as he has been Tankoa’s client for a long time.
“Diamond Binta, our first 58-metre T580 yacht, showcases perfectly why discerning owners choose to build with us and to stay in the family when their needs evolve,” comments Vincenzo Poerio, Tankoa Yachts CEO. “She speaks to the skill and craftsmanship of our shipyard team in her engineering and her quality, and to our ability to realise and enhance the dreams of an owner”.
Deck layout
The Diamond Binta features lots of elements that are considered a must for modern yachts of a similar size today: a large beach club aft, a helipad, a generous garage…
But Tankoa gives each of them a new twist. Thus, the beach club includes a generous lounge area and a spa room with a glass wall that lets natural light flood in, while the light from main deck gets here through a special skylight.
In addition to water toys, the garage on board the Diamond Binta can accommodate not just one, but two tenders, one of which is a 9-metre limo for the guests’ comfortable transportation to and from the shore.
The owner’s passion for engineering is especially obvious below deck: there is one feature here that is unlikely to be found anywhere else. The guest corridor leading to the beach club has large panoramic windows allowing all those interested to admire the yacht’s “organism” working.
There are five guest cabins on the lower deck, which can accommodate up to 12 guests if necessary, thanks to additional Pullman beds in two of them.
The 10-metre-wide full-beam master suite is located on the main deck and features a private lounge, a study and a fold-down exterior terrace.
There are lots of interesting design cues here, starting from asymmetric shaped motifs on the carpet and ceilings to finest detailing of the finishing.
Interiors
Neutral colour palette ranging from dove grey to deeper shades creates a calm and elegant atmosphere. The interiors created by Margherita Casprini features extensive use of oak: striped, glossy, brushed, and a distinctive dark brown “tatami” for the floor.
The walls are embellished with thin, satin metal profiles and decorated leather panels.
One can also see various kinds of marble here: “cappuccino” for the coffee table tops on the main deck, “botticino” for the dining area floors, “calacatta” adorns the lobby, and “fior di bosco” highlights the bathrooms.
The ceilings feature prominently in the design, too, blending lacquered pearl grey and grey-brown panels. Integrated LED strips run along the curved beams around the ceiling perimeters, accentuating the key areas.
Almost all the onboard furniture was custom-designed and complemented by high-end pieces from famous brands like Minotti sofas, armchairs, dining tables and chairs. Poltrona Frau stools add elegance to the galley, which is not just a service area, as the owner and his family love cooking.
Open decks
The main place for al fresco recreation is at the very top, on the sundeck. There is a pool with built-in spa jets and sun loungers, a spacious lounge and a dining area aft.
The central section of the sundeck is enclosed and is home to a gym with a panoramic view for inspiration during the workouts. The glass doors forward and aft can be left open to let the sea breeze blow freely.
Another open terrace is located one level lower, on the upper deck aft.
The foredeck is almost completely free, as it serves as a helipad. When it is not in use, one may use it for other purposes with the help of free-standing furniture. At the level of water there is definitely a beach club that has already been mentioned above.
Performance characteristics
In the Diamond Binta’s engine room there are twin diesel CAT engines that can accelerate the yacht up to a cruising speed of 15 knots and a top speed of 17. In the economy mode of 10 knots the Dimond Binta can cover up to 5400 nautical miles, and her fuel capacity is 105 000 liters. Two gyro stabilizers with 4.72 sq.m fins promise that the voyage on board the Diamond Binta will not be just long, but also comfortable.
