Sanlorenzo SP92: sporty character and comfortable minimalism

The second representative of the Smart Performance range by Italian Sanlorenzo is not just a smaller copy of her elder sister, the SP110, but a result of the yard’s careful research and experiments with exterior and interior spaces, new technologies and materials
Work on the SP92 was quite a challenge for Sanlorenzo team, as they had to stick to the rules offered by the range’s pioneer, the SP110, but at the same time to offer something new and “pack” it in a more compact size.
On the outside
At first glance, the SP110 and the SP92 look similar. Low superstructure, open aft platform, the same clean and minimalist lines and elements. The younger sister looks a little more harmonious thanks to her more compact size.

The similarity with the SP110 is not surprising: the SP92 has inherited her elder sister’s family traits and both boats’ exteriors are owed to Zuccon International Project.
“The only distinguishing feature is the stylistic element that defines the SP's design language: the copper-colored blade that runs along the upper edge of the superstructure, characteristic of the range, is more extended in the SP92, adding further sportiness and balance to the boat. This stylistic feature serves as the most distinctive hallmark of the entire SP fleet, infusing it with energy and a strong identity”, said Bernardo Zuccon of Zuccon International Project about the SP92’s design.

As it often happens, the devil is in the details, and the SP92 does have something to boast here. The aft area of almost 45 sq.m has been reconsidered. Now the garage for a 3.95-metre tender is concealed under the central part of the swim platform, which has become even closer to the water.
The superstructure design has been optimized for the installation of solar panels in order to maximize available surface area without compromising the aesthetic appeal. Thanks to the use of new monocrystalline cell, the photovoltaic system on the superstructure provides an average of 3 kWp/h, which is stored in the service battery pack and powers the hotel mode at anchor.

The large perimeter windows of the superstructure are made with special laminated glass composition, which protects the interior from UV rays. In addition, they expand the space and maximize the connection with the outside.
As with the SP110, the curvy glass doors aft provide access to the yacht’s interior and allow one to unite the exterior space of the cockpit with the saloon. The flybridge, cockpit and foredeck feature a minimalist style and offer outdoor recreation opportunities.
Inside
The interior spaces are the SP92’s key highlight. In collaboration with architect Piero Lissoni, who was in charge of the boat’s interior design, the shipyard managed to do an absolutely incredible thing: there are four levels inside the boat.

“SP92 is a floating piece of architecture with very well-balanced dimensions. It’s like a beautiful motorboat stretching over 90 feet and has the same drivability and speed as a motorboat but with the livability and architecture of a large yacht”, explains Piero Lissoni of Lissoni & Partners.

According to the architect, the interior space on board the SP92 blends with the exterior ones, forming an incredible connection with the sea.
This is particularly obvious, when you first get on board and see the two levels of the main deck – a solution that has already been tested on the SP110.

At the request of the owners, the areas above and below can easily change their purpose. For instance, the sitting area with sofas located at the entrance can become a dining area with a galley on the port side, while the upper level can be either a stylish saloon or a compact dining area with a lounge.

A glass panel separates the amazingly stylish helm station from the saloon, ensuring an unobstructed view – along with the vast floor-to-ceiling side windows. One of them, on the port side, can slide fully open, so by opening it together with the aft doors on the lower level, both levels of the yacht can be filled with fresh sea air, turning this interior space into an exterior one.

Two more levels are located on the lower deck. There are three cabins on the first one: two VIP cabins and a full-beam master suite. On the second level, which is a little lower, there is a space that can be used as a lower saloon, a playroom, a cinema or an additional double cabin.
At the bow, accessible from the command bridge, there is a crew area with two ensuite double cabins, a laundry area, a pantry and a well-equipped galley.

As usual, Sanlorenzo did their best to prevent seemingly simple and natural finishing materials and furniture items from drawing too much attention, and focused on the creation of comfortable conditions for the guests. The upper levels feature an interplay of contrasting dark ceilings and light wall and upholstery, while below the colour palette is more natural and quiet.
Technical features
As a result of the research, the shipyard managed to produce an efficient hull, offering maximum performance and comfort during navigation in various conditions. They did not only think of the geometry and a constant trim, but also of reducing the weight of all the yacht components to minimize fuel consumption.
Not only the huill, glass and superstructure, but even the furnishings for the yacht are made with composite materials and aeronautical technologies. According to the shipyard, all these efforts allowed the SP92 to decrease fuel consumption in the cruising mode by 12-13%.
With twin MAN 12 V engines of 2000 hp each, the yacht can develop a top speed of 40 knots. At a cruising speed of 35 knots, she has a range of about 400 nautical miles.

The choice of waterjet propulsion provides greater autonomy based on the desired speed, absence of vibrations, and a shallow draft of just 1.20 m. It also ensures simplicity of handling and maneuvering both in a marina and open sea.
As it has already been said above, Sanlorenzo’s goal was to create a sporty performance yacht with comfortable spaces on board and not to compromise either of them. If the first yacht in the range, the SP110, proved that it is possible, the SP92 reaffirmed the yard’s new Smart Performance direction. She also demonstrated that Sanlorenzo is brilliant at working with spaces and creating fast and beautiful yachts never forgetting the newest technologies.
