The future flagship of the high-performance Bolide range is bidding to get the title of the world’s fastest superyacht
“We do not compete with other market players; our focus is solely on creating what has never been done before,” says the founder of the design studio, Brunello Acampora. Such ambitious claims by Victory Design were confirmed at the premiere of the entry model, Bolide 80, built by Seven Stars shipyard. The 25-metre yacht was immediately dubbed “hyper car of the sea”: with 6,000 hp under her hood, even in the cruising modes her speed is 55 knots, while the maximum she can sprint up to is 75 knots. The range presented two years ago is expected to include nine models with a length from 18 to 50 metres. The largest of them will boast the same fantastic performance, but on a far larger scale.
The Naples-based studio formulates the concept behind its work as “Total Design”, which means it does not only develop exteriors and interiors, but naval architecture and engineering of each project, too. For this reason, everything about Bolide 170 is meticulously planned and interconnected – from the avant-garde aesthetics with references to muscle cars to the tiniest technical details. Depsite the length of 51 metres, the hull looks like a speedboat with its sharp bow, sleek superstructure and a low stern, while the bright blue colour with graphite grey inserts reinforces the similarity. The yacht will be made of maximum light-weight materials of two versions depending on the propulsion.
If the owner opts for diesel, the hull will be of a light alloy, the superstructure will be of carbon fibre, while there will be six 2200 hp MAN engines in a triple staggered configuration, two electric motors and the patented T-Drive propulsion system by Flexitab & TS with six composite flaps without a generator. The top speed for this configuration is 50 knots.
In case the owner goes for a hybrid version with four gas turbines, electric engines and a state-of -the-art battery pack, the yacht will be of composite, and her top speed will be 70 knots, which is incredible for a vessel of this size.
Just like the entire Bolide range, this model pays special attention to efficiency and emission reduction, but not at the expense of speed. Months of study by the Victory CFD team (computational fluid dynamics) resulted in two patents and a promise that Bolide 170’s fuel consumption per mile will be reduced by 50% compared to yachts of similar length. The convenience and safety of handling will be ensured by the Human Machine Interface, or HMI, created in collaboration with Boening and Xenta.
The exterior lounging areas on board the Bolide 170 include a dining area in the superstructure terrace, sofas and sunpads both forward and aft. Instead of a transom (the garage for a tender and toys is located in the forepeak) there are steps leading down to the bathing platform, which has an unfolding sea terrace to make it easy to enter the water. Another embellishment located aft is the pool of a fancy shape. And, by the way, there can be another pool forward. The fold-out bulwarks increase the area of the beach club almost by a third.
The yacht offers accommodation for ten guests in four spacious suites and a master suite. According to the designers, the interior layout and décor created in collaboration with architect Stefano Faggioni should enhance the inimitable “Made in Italy” style, as the living areas’ ergonomics with the elements of a smart house and premium finishing materials invite you to experience “dolce far niente” surrounded by absolute comfort and elegance. Abundance of carbon and hand stitched leather are a direct reference to supercar design. All the furnishings are custom-made, while exquisite Loro Piana textiles create a cozy and comfortable atmosphere.
Brunello Acampora believes that Bolide 170 and other models in the range do not only push the boundaries of yacht engineering, but are a value comparable to pieces of art: “These are true collector pieces, custom built, not in series, where each yacht is a unique and exclusive vessel”.
