As part of the first Venice Climate Week that took place on 3-8 June 2025, the Italian shipyard unveiled its new creation on land — an arts centre named Casa Sanlorenzo

“Our aim with Casa Sanlorenzo is to offer a reference point for initiatives linked to the world of Sanlorenzo Arts, an entity conceived with the goal of celebrating and supporting the union between art, design and culture, where innovation and creativity can flourish without limits. Casa Sanlorenzo becomes a place where one enters to stop, reflect and share. A space of research, where art does not simply adorn, but rather interrogates. Where design does not impress, but guides. Where beauty is never for its own sake, but the bearer of ethics. In an increasingly virtual world, we wanted to invest in presence, in meaningful encounters, and in shared experiences. And Venice is the perfect place for this project,” said Massimo Perotti, Executive Chairman at Sanlorenzo shipyard.

Casa Sanlorenzo is located in the territory of a 1940s villa, adjacent to the gem of Venetian architecture, Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute. The new art space was gently reimagined by Piero Lissoni and his Lissoni & Partners and includes a building of over 1 000 sq.m and a spacious garden of about 600 sq.m. All year round both indoors and in the garden, Casa Sanlorenzo will be home to exhibitions, performances and talks dedicated to the major cultural events in Venice, including biennales.

Among the main highlights of Casa Sanlorenzo’s art collection one should mention the work by Arte Povera artist Alighiero Boetti from his “Maps of the World” series, the red canvas by one of the major avant-garde artists of the 20th century from his “Cuts” series, a meditative composition by photographer Marco Palmieri and works by contemporary Swiss artist, Emil Michael Klein.

Along with the active development of cultural initiative on land, Sanlorenzo remains consistent in its commitment to blending aesthetics and responsibility on the water, too. Thus, the 50-metre Sanlorenzo Almax with interiors designed by Piero Lissoni became the world’s first vessel featuring green methanol reformer fuel cell system, which minimizes the impact and embodies the concept of responsible yachting.

As part of the Venice Climate Week, Casa Sanlorenzo was also home to Sanlorenzo Talks, which is a series of meetings dedicated to the discussion of various design and art issues and modern challenges, including the one articulated by the head of the shipyard, i.e. that beauty for its own sake is no longer enough, but should be the bearer of ethics.
