A collection of luxury garments and bags has been created out of the surplus materials from the yacht manufacturing sector in the city of Plymouth, which is home to the renowned shipyard
The author of the pilot collection of high-end fashion clothes and travel accessories is the graduate of Plymouth Arts University, Megan Trapnell. The premiere of Dart &Grey brand collection took place at the Cannes Yachting Festival 2024 together with the debut of the new S-class flagship, the elegant Princess S80.
“The company is supporting emerging young talent within the City of Plymouth and in partnership we are tackling a growing problem of surplus waste from the manufacturing process. Diverting expensive textiles away from energy from waste (incineration) and handcrafting beautiful fashion items and accessories from the surplus, is an innovative way to showcase sustainability on our luxury yachts, whilst reducing our environmental impact and utilising materials in a resourceful and efficient manner,” said Laura Parry, environmental and compliance Manager at Princess Yachts.
Designer Megan Trapnell, who has already been invited to submit a portfolio to LVMH Louis Vuitton, hopes that this pilot project with Princess Yachts will evolve into a new business model, showcasing the potential for fashion and luxury yacht industries collaboration, as well as a more ethical view of the high-end fashion.
