Maybach Ocean Club: super luxury class floating retreat
The physical embodiment of the exclusive cruising concept will be a purpose-built 155-metre superyacht named Beyond Horizons with an internal volume of over 15,000 GT and a 70-metre support vessel
The idea for such a club first came to superyacht captain Matthias Bosse and hospitality entrepreneur Michael Hehn during the Covid era, but has only now taken shape thanks to their partnership with Mercedes-Maybach.
Maybach Ocean Club’s goal is to create a community of like-minded co-owners, each of which will be entitled to four weeks a year of recreation, communication and networking on board the luxury vessel. In addition, members will be granted access to all the common areas, restaurants and the beach club any time they happen to be in the same location as the superyacht.
The club will offer 30 luxury apartments of 74 sq.m with private balconies. “We didn’t want categories," says Matthias Bosse, co-founder of Splendid Sea. "No master suite upstairs and tiny cabins below. All 30 suites are equal."
To emphasize the difference between the Beyond Horizons and a cruise ship, the founders of the club claim that even when fully occupied, there will never be more than 72 guests on board at the same time, and their comfort will be ensured by 80-85 crew members.
Just like other Maybach creations, the Beyond Horizons will embody sophisticated luxury, traditions and state-of-the-art technology.
The vessel’s cascading decks that are “layered like landscapes” offer 50,000 square feet (over 4,646 square meters) of space, including both cozy private corners and generous panoramic lounges. There is a beach club with a vast split-level pool aft and a swim platform with direct access to the water. The superyacht will be powered by green methanol or biodiesel.
To work on the interiors Maybach designers also attracted German Dölker + Voges, best known for its 85.9-metre Oceanco Aquijo and 90-metre Lürssen Norn. The materials and the colour palette draw on Maybach aesthetics, and there will be a famous signet at the bow.
According to Boat International, Splendid Sea has already completed specifications, and tenders have gone to major European shipyards. The first season is expected to open in 2029.
At present all those interested can request an invitation on Maybach Ocean Club. The annual membership fee will be about five per cent of the initial investment, and will cover fuel, port fees, insurance, maintenance and crew management.
