Arcadia Yachts Sherpa 80
About Arcadia Yachts Sherpa 80
Having inherited a lot from the junior Sherpa 60, the Sherpa 80 can boast a lot of her own distinct features
Unveiled in 2019 and almost immediately awarded the World Yachts Trophies for best innovation in her category, the Sherpa 80 (or Sherpa XL at that time) got a much more favourable reception than her predecessor. Firstly, her exterior became less radical as a result of the shipyard’s collaboration with Hot Lab studio, although she retained all the “family traits”. Secondly, people had time to get used to Arcadia Yachts style and some found it charming. And thirdly, the shipyard managed to find and offer a good balance of incredible exterior and comfortable interior spaces.
The Sherpa 80 is as open as possible. Her aft is a an al fresco saloon traditionally divided into a lounge and a dining area. The open plan sundeck, which can be used as a sun lounge, a bar, a dance floor or an area for doing yoga, protects the cockpit from the sun. The areas that are left unsheltered are a large sunpad and a bathing platform aft. But just like the sundeck they can be hidden under a canopy. The dining area for 8-10 guests can be enclosed with glass partitions on two sides if necessary, and there is a TV concealed in the console between the dining room and the lounge, so in the evening the lounge can transform into an outdoor cinema.
The skylounge, or the interior space of the main deck are open plan, too, while the galley and the helm station can be enclosed. The glass section of the roof with solar panels lets the light in, creating a beautiful play of light and shadows, while the windows along the perimeter of the vessel are equipped with lifting mechanisms, so the area can be filled with fresh air.
There are four cabins below deck. The full-beam master cabin is located amidships, and it is followed by two twin cabins and one VIP cabin forward. There is a separate double crew cabin, and there can be another one if necessary.
The manufacturer decided to make a side tender garage similar to superyachts in order to free more space for the guests, and at the same time they thought of directing the crew footpaths to port to separate them from the guest flows. The solar panels of over 30 sq.m can generate about 2.5 kW. The energy accumulated during the day is enough to power the use of air conditioning at night without using a generator.
Twin Volvo Penta IPS 1050 of 800 hp each can accelerate the yacht to a maximum of 20 knots, while more powerful 100 hp ones can deliver up to 23 knots. However, high speeds are not a priority for a boat following the concept of slow yachting, as the main purpose of the Sherpa 80 is relaxation and enjoying the sea during leisurely cruises.
