About Wally Wallyrocket51
The Wallyrocket51 is a one-design racer crafted with a focus to become the world's fastest race boat on corrected time
The project is led by Botin Partners, with structural engineering by Pure and project development by famous sailors Vasco Vascotto and Guillermo Parada. The design and styling are a collaboration between Luca Bassani, the Wally Design Team and Studio Santa Maria Magnolfi.
The Wallyrocket51 features a carbon fibre hull that is incredibly light yet strong. The hull shape is optimised for speed and performance, with a special trim tab system on the keel to reduce drag and improve upwind capabilities.
This yacht promises to be a top class performer, capable of outrunning even the most competitive TP52s. Simulations suggest the Wallyrocket51 will be faster in light winds and in a variety of conditions.
High performance water ballast, lightweight carbon foam sandwich construction and refined handling reduce crew requirements to 11. Moreover, with the addition of a fully electric winch package, the Wallyrocket51 can actually be crewed by 8 or 9 people.
The 550 litres of water ballast is equivalent to five crews on the rail. It takes 80 seconds to fill, 60 seconds to dump and just 10 seconds to transfer from side to side.
Simulations suggest the yacht can dominate in any IRC or ORC class. Whether it is classic offshore racing, ocean racing or short-handed inshore racing, the Wallyrocket51 has the potential to win. The advantages of a one-design make the running costs particularly low.
