The new expedition superyacht, Mat, can boast some features that make her really different from her predecessor in the same series
According to Cantiere delle Marche, Mat has made a significant contribution to the evolution of the entire Flexplorer series, and demonstrates its adaptability and flexibility allowing it to meet various owners’ needs.
The difference from the first Flexplorer 146, is quite considerable indeed, as it is not only about the equipment, but the layouts, crew and guest accommodation and decks configuration.
Althought the new Flexplorer 146 has preserved the explorer esthetics with a high bow and a trawler-type superstructure brought forward, which is typical of the range, it boasts a more elegant profile due to the fact that there are fewer decks now. Besides, the A-frame crane we saw on Maverick and other vessels in the series, has been removed. Instead, the Mat features an “invisible crane” hidden in the in sundeck overhang, which helps to launch a large tender and water toys. This solution allowed the designers to free up more lounging space aft, which is a solution that has been tested on the explorers from the RJ series.
Just like other Flexplorer models, the Mat’s exterior design, naval architecture and engineering are owed to Hydro Tec studio. The interiors were created by Nauta Design, who had a task of finding the balance between the elegance and functionality, while preserving the spirit of the expedition yacht.
“Mat’s interiors are spacious and well balanced. All guest areas boast large windows to bring light and views into the interior and enhance the feeling of indoor-outdoor connection. The yacht’s interior architecture is clean and refined with natural materials that are pleasantly tactile and colors that are light and pleasant to live among. The play of reflected light brings an element of constant movement to the interiors that enlivens and enriches the appeal of clean forms and natural tones,” says Mario Pedol, founder of Nauta Design.
The length of 44.50 m, the beam of 8.6 m and the internal volume of 475 GT provide generous spaces for the owners and 10 guests across three decks and a sundeck. The superyacht is meant to be handled by a crew of up to nine, and provides separate quarters for their accommodation.
Twin Caterpillar C32 engines of 746 kW each deliver a top speed of up to 14 knots, while the fuel capacity 65 000 liters and the economical speed of 10 knots provide a range of up to 5000 nautical miles.
