As work on the project progressed, the exterior, styling, layout and even the length of the vessel designed by Cristiano Gatto Design, underwent some considerable changes
The owners met Cristiano Gatto at the Palm Beach International Boat Show in March 2023, when they were looking for an interior designer to work on their yacht’s layout. As they started talking, they realized they were ready to entrust him not only with furniture, but the all of the project’s styling.
There were two major requirements: a particular size of the yacht for the owner to be able to operate her on his own, and keeping the level of finishes and technical characteristics at the level of larger yachts.
“The goal was not simply to build a boat,” said the founder and key creative force at Cristiano Gatto Design. “The owner wanted a micro-megayacht built to the same standards as a 60- or 70-metre project. The result exceeded my expectations.”
The project grew from the original 36-metre platform drawn by SFG Design to the almost 40-metre Shine.
Renowned Diana Yacht Design and Ginton Naval Architects took part in the creation of the full-aluminium hull and superstructure. One of the key challenges was the restriction of 8.5 m for her beam (with a draft of 2.3 m) due to Dutch canal lock limitations.
Special attention was also given to the yacht's aft section, which includes a transformer multifunctional swim platform, two drop-down balconies, aft transom door and outboard rudders. Their optimised configuration allowed for shallower shaft angle, reducing vibration and improving onboard comfort.
The interior concept offered by Fancy by Dada was further refined by Cristiano Gatto’s team, who also worked on layouts and exterior lines to ensure style consistency. The Shine features custom made furniture and 78 different kinds of materials, including ebony wood and fine leather finishes.
The Dutch boutique shipyard Van der Valk managed to bring all these ideas to life, ensuring the highest level of quality in all areas of shipbuilding, including metal, paintwork and carpentry. The owners looked really happy at the launching ceremony at the yard’s facility in Waalwijk, as they received the boat of their dreams.
With twin MTU 16V2000M97L engines of 2,600 hp, the yacht can develop a top speed of up to 24 knots and a cruising speed of 19 knots. The accommodation includes the owner’s suite on the main deck and four guest cabins below deck (two VIPs and two twins). The Shine will be delivered after the sea trials – just in time for the summer season.
