Royal Huisman shipyard is well-known for building large and particularly challenging sailing yachts
At present work is in progress on Project 410 at the yard’s facility in Vollenhove. It is an 85-metre sloop, that is a one-mast yacht, which is going to be the world’s largest vessel of this kind. She is almost seven metres larger than the current champion, the 78.4-metre M5 (ex.Mirabella V) built in 2004 by British Vosper Thornycroft.
To accommodate a construction of this size, Royal Huisman had to enlarge one of its halls. However, the shipyard is no stranger to such large projects. According to Jan Timmerman, Royal Huisman CEO, "Four of the world’s ten largest sailing yachts are either built by or under construction at Royal Huisman”.
Among the largest projects, there is Athena, Sea Eagle, Project 410 and another super-sized sailing yacht currently under construction in Vollenhove, the details of which are still under wraps, except for the fact that she is currently named Noir and boasts a length of 81 m.
Project 410’s design is the result of team work Frers Design and Wetzels Brown. The yacht will be equipped with hybrid propulsion and a hydrogeneration system, i.e. she will be capable of generating energy under sail. The yacht will feature recyclable and low-impact materials. The date of Project 410’s launch and delivery has not been announced yet.
