The yacht was designed by Spain-based designer, Marcelo Penna, whose studio (Marcelo Penna Group) worked on the exterior, engineering, layouts and interior
According to Cantieri di Pisa, the yacht currently known as the Custom 40M retains the brand’s signature design elements, reinterpreted through a contemporary lens.
“This is the first boat built by Cantieri di Pisa after the change of direction, and the fact that it’s a fully bespoke project requires the development of design solutions that make no compromises on quality standards. The yacht’s generous volumes, compared to market standards, have allowed us to further optimise liveability at sea”, said Marco Massabò, the shipyard’s CEO.
The shipyard founded in 1945 is currently undergoing the process of modernization and repositioning: following its partnership with the Genoa-based T.Mariotti group last year, Cantieri di Pisa is focusing on producing larger, more high-tech and eco-friendly yachts. Its plans include upgrading and reviving the iconic Akhir line, creating custom projects and developing new explorer models.
Construction on the Custom 40 started in May 2025. At present, her steel displacement hull is complete and the yard started work in the aluminium superstructure with a flybridge. The yacht will have a metallic livery, black stripes and signature mouldings in a dark metallic shade of grey, while green teak was chosen for the deck.
With a length of 40 m and a beam of 8.15 m, the yacht’s internal volume will 450 GT, allowing for comfortable accommodation for 12 guests. The owner’s suit with a private terrace will be located on the main deck forward, while there will be four guest cabins and one VIP suite below deck. There will be four cabins for a crew of nine, while the captain and first officer will have their own accommodation on the upper deck next to the wheelhouse.
The experienced owner from Europe intends to spend a lot of time on board and go on long-range cruises. Nevertheless, his request was to design the yacht with a possibility of chartering in mind. Therefore, a lot of attention was paid to her autonomy, comfort and entertainment systems. She features a well-appointed galley, dedicated fridge and freezer areas, a large laundry, a generous garage for a 6.60-metre tender and water toys. There will be plenty of both indoor and outdoor lounges.
Twin MAN V12 engines of 1,550 hp each will deliver a top speed of 15 knots, while at the cruising speed of 13 knots, her range will be 2,000 nautical miles. The yacht will have Bureau Veritas Charter class certification, confirming her compliance with the highest international safety standard, technical regulations and ecological requirements.
