The delivery is scheduled for June 2027, after which the Milky Ways is to become the largest yacht ever built in Brazil
The experienced owner, who commissioned the Milky Ways in 2024, wanted a “floating sanctuary” suitable both for spending time with family and meeting business partners and clients. The plan is to cruise Brazilian and Caribbean waters exclusively. After years of using 1,000 GT charter yachts, he decided to go for a smaller vessel with an internal volume under 500 GT, yet offering abundant lounging areas.
The Milky Ways’ exterior and architecture were entrusted to Vripack designers. “Fitting all the amenities and space that the owner enjoys in larger yachts into a 499GT boat presented quite the challenge, but one that we overcame with smart design,” said Vripack co-creative director Bart Bouwhuis.
The 50-metre vessel features a plumb bow, which allows the vessel cut the waves easily and increases the volume of crew and service spaces (in addition to crew cabins there is also a garage for a 7-metre Castoldi tender). The yacht’s large and empty foredeck may serve both as a helipad for an Airbus EC145 and as a basketball court.
One of the project’s highlights is the lounge area that the designers refer to as a “people pad”. It is a long open-air terrace that is actually like a second sundeck, completing the other sundeck at the very top, where, in addition to a bar and a lounge there is also a pool with a glass wall.
Thus, the main pool is shaded, which is quite comfortable, taking into account the water areas the yacht is meant for. However, one can still sunbathe next to the pool, as the fold-down terraces increase the area of the beach club by 40%.
The Milky Ways’ layout boasts some interesting features, too. The owner wanted to have two offices onboard: a larger one on the bridge deck, and a smaller one as part of the master suite on the main deck. In addition, there will always be a cigar lounge with a fold-down balcony and a huge TV, a walk-in wine cellar for 250 bottles and a firepit.
There are two VIP guest cabins and two twin ones.
The Milky Ways’ provisional top speed is 21 knots, and at a cruising speed of 11 knots she has a range of about 3,500 nautical miles.
