Dutch naval architecture and design studio Mulder Design has teamed up with Turkish Ares Yachts to bring a new yacht with a shorter delivery time to the market
The hull currently known as Project Opal is already at an advanced construction stage. The yacht draws on Mulder’s high-speed cruising hull developed to offer either high fuel efficiency or the ability to increase the speed by up to 30 per cent depending on engine package. The project is an excellent opportunity to acquire a 70-metre yacht and refine her general arrangement and interior style according to individual needs and preferences.
“With the exterior styling, what we have aimed to achieve is a look that appeals to a lot of people and therefore isn’t something too crazy, and which mirrors current trends in a way that isn’t so super-modern it would date quickly,” said Bas Mulder, Owner at Mulder Design. “The core attributes are calm and elegant lines that work in harmony with the marine environment rather than screaming for attention”.
The yacht’s layout features signature Mulder Design elements. The bulwarks on two upper decks are flared, which improves visibility and provides more space around the owner’s suite on the upper deck forward. The provisional general arrangement also adds a guest sky lounge aft, but potentially this could be reconfigured to turn the entire upper deck into a vast private owner area.
The lower deck is dedicated primarily to the crew: there are crew cabins and a mess here, as well as the main galley and technical elements. Six luxurious guest doubles are located on the main deck forward, while there is a generous saloon and a dining area leading to a versatile area aft, with a bar, alfresco dining and a lounge. The upper deck is home to the wheelhouse and the captain’s cabin, as well as a sunning area. The yacht is capped with a private lounge featuring an observation deck and a spa pool.
At the water level there is a big beach club aft, with glass doors leading onto a generous swimming platform. A transverse garage can store various tenders and toys, and the foredeck serves as a touch-and-go helipad.
According to Piraye Şahi̇nkaya Orhun, Managing Director of Ares Yachts, the boat can be delivered in 36 months, which is incredibly fast for a fully custom 70-metre project. Project Opal will be built in compliance with commercial specifications and can be used as a charter vessel. There is also a choice of various propulsion systems, including hybrid and even full electric options.
