The three-deck superyacht was commissioned by an experienced owner, actively involved in the construction process
Just like Lady Lene, Samba features naval architecture by Diana Yacht Design and Ginton Naval Architects. “Her successful underwater design has been transformed into a fast displacement hull for Samba, with twin MAN 1450 hp diesels offering an expected top speed of around 17 knots. Leveraging on a proven-in-practice platform in this way is a highly efficient way of building while offering total freedom to customise above the waterline”, said Yoeri Bijker, Van der Valk head of sales".
Both the exterior and interior are owed to Guido de Groot Design studio that spent hours developing the rhythmic lines, complex surfaces and sculptural elements of the superyacht. Darker graphic details lower the profile visually, and make the yacht look more elegant, while the trawler type glazing and a high bow make it clear from the start that she is not just a yacht, but an explorer.
The exterior spaces feature meticulously planned layouts, and one of the owner’s requests was a spacious lounge aft with a large sofa and a table for al fresco dinners. Another interesting feature is Samba’s beach club with a chill-out zone, a sauna and a steam room. The large transformer platform can descend into the water to a necessary depth to facilitate entering and coming out of the water. The saloon on the bridge deck can serve both as an interior and exterior space thanks to three large sliding doors.
The length of 35.29 m and the beam of 7.80 m allowed for an internal volume of about 295 GT. The designers had a task of creating family atmosphere on board. “Warm earthy tones will generate a lived-in feel with respect to detailing; never fancy or flashy, the yacht will have a pretty and practical style. Superior finishing will be combined with durability in a relaxed and calm environment that will be very pleasing on the eye,” said Guido de Groot, who was in charge of the design.
The master suite is located on the main deck, and in addition to a bedroom, his-and-her bathrooms and a dressing room, there is also an office and a cozy lounge. Below deck there are two VIP cabins and two twin cabins.
The central staircase connects all the three decks of the yacht, and as the owner’s family are fond of cooking, the galley on the main deck offers enough working space both for the crew and for the guests.
Twin MAN D2862LE489 V12 engines of 1450 hp each can accelerate Samba to a top speed of 17 knots, while the provisional economy mode is 13.54 knots.
The aft garage can accommodate a tender like Williams Disiel Jet 415, and another, smaller tender, can be stored on the bridge deck.
Van der Valk promises to deliver Samba in the summer of 2025, and says that if a customer is considering building a bespoke superyacht of 24- 45 m with a Dutch pedigree, Van der Valk is perhaps the only yard that will not try to guide them into a more “semi-custom route”.
