The competition has the status of the Russian Cup in the J/70 Class and is supported by the Russian Yachting Federation
Ten strongest teams of the country have taken part in the regatta. Among the participants there were yachtsmen from Moscow, Vladivostok, Taganrog, Tolyatti, Saint Peterstburg, Chelyabinsk and Anapa.
Friday races took place in extremely changeable weather: sunny, rainy and with the wind of 4-7 knots that often changed its direction. The competition was fierce, and the teams finished with a minimal margin. At the end of the day the leaders were Bars Sailing Team (7 points), Trem Sailing (11 points) and Skolkovo Sailing Team 5 (11 points).
“There were no obvious leaders today. And we will remember this day for its ‘fifty shades’ of the wearther: it was cold, it was hot, it rained, it poured, and we changed the settings a few times. It was really exciting! And it feels like there were a lot more than three races”, said Evgenia Belotelova from Skolkovo Sailing Team 5.
On the second racing day the weather was great: it was sunny with the wind of 5 to 8 knots.
“We could hold six races on Saturday, which is a maximum in accordance with the rules. The wind was good, but changed a lot. It made it more challenging both for the yachtsmen and the judges, but the races were interesting. There were not many violations, and all the penalties were carried out in time. All in all, the racing day went well”, said Andery Latinov, the chief umpire of the competition.
At the end of the day the leaders of Friday races, Bars Sailing Team and Trem Sailing, could keep their positions, while Alex Team managed to rise to the third position.
The weather on the final day of the regatta didn’t allow the organisers to hold the races. The top three teams were awarded on the basis of nine scoring races results that took place on Friday and Saturday.
With a score of 17 points Bars Sailing Team became the winner of the stage.
“It’s been the first time I have faced a situation when the wind came spitting from four sides, it was super unstable and sometimes died down completely. Our goal was not to let our main rival, RUS7 team, overtake us, to be able to reduce the margin before the final stage. And we did manage to achieve it and could come first”, said Ilya Polischuk, Bars Sailing Team’s tactician.
The silver medals went to Trem Sailing team with a margin of just 1 point, and the third leader was Alex Team with 24 points.
The next, final stage of the Russian Cup in the J/70 Class will take place on 24-28 October in Sirius Federal Territory, at "Imeritinsky" yacht port.
