The competition was organized by PROyachting company. There were 11 teams in the regatta, and the first stage ended in a draw of the top three crews
Saint Petersburg greeted the yachtsmen with sunny weather and a fresh wind of 12-15 knots. On Saturday, on the first racing day, the organizers held four races, as a result of which there were three leaders: Sail & Sea (11 points), Amigo (13 points) and “PEK. Sport. Molodezhka” (16 points).
On the last racing day there were two more races with a stable wind of 4-5 knots. The competition was fierce, with minimal gaps between the rivals. As a result, the top three crews finished the stage with the same result: each team got 12 points. The order of prize-winners was determined by additional parameters.
The victory went to the Black Swan, which was the first to finish in two out of six races in the first stage.
“The wind conditions in Saint Petersburg are really good, it is always great to race here, and the regatta gathered quite strong participants that are interesting to compete against”, says the Black Swan helmsman, Sergey Maltsev. “The feelings were very different: from frustration to happiness. All in all, we are really pleased. We are planning to take part on all four stages as a minimum, and as a maximum we are planning to win”.
The silver went to Amigo crew, who came first once. And the third is the Sail & Sea, who finished among the top three throughout the stage.
The next stage will be held at Smolenka yacht port on 19-21 July.
