PROyachting regatta opens sailing season in Moscow
On Tuesday, May 21, PROyachting has officially opened the new sailing season in Moscow
In the regatta held for modern sport J/70 sailing yachts in the waters of the Khimki Reservoir 21 teams have taken part. Along with experienced yachtsmen beginners could also enter the race, as they were assisted by professional skippers-instructors. Fortune smiled on Russo Trans team, a regular participant in PROyachting regattas.
“It is always exciting to race here at Vodny Stadion, as the wind is unpredictable and anyone can win. We just tried to do our best and came first in the end”, - said Valentin Uvarkin, the tactician of Russo Trans team. “The organizers have held two full-fledged races. It’s a great opening of the season – cheerful, with lots of guests, a good mood, tasty food and drinks, and lively music. It was great to be part of this event”.
After the race there was an official prize-giving ceremony for the winners of night races of 2023 season and winter series of 2023/2024
All the champions got traditional perpetual trophies and prizes from the partners of the event. Black Swan team, the winner of Tuesday Warm-Up Race series, Black has taken part in all the races and failed to take the prize just once.
“The format of night races is really convenient and interesting. There are strong rivals, prizes that you keep fighting for all through the season, and an official award-giving ceremony. Season 2023 is my fourth in sailing. We set an ambitious goal last spring: to win the season in Tuesday Warm-Up Race series. And we are really happy we managed to do it,” said a member of Black Swan team, Sergey Maltsev. “This season we’ve got plans to win another PROyachting series, Wednesday Night Race, and to take part in Saint Petersburg Cup”.
The perpertual trophy for Wednesday Night Race was awarded to Aladdin team that has taken part in all 19 races of the season and got prizes in 13 of them.
“Night races at Vodny Stadion are a unique event. In Moscow, just a step away from home or office, you get a real sailing competition with strong rivals. You can learn something new, and practice it”, said a member of Aladdin team, Vasily Yakovlev. “The water area is not simple in Moscow. The wind is swirling, so you can sail both when the wind is strong and weak. This format suits any taste and any request perfectly”.
By a margin of just one point the team called “INTERSAN plus” has won the main prize in the series of PROyachting Thursday Fun Race.
“The season of night races 2023 was just great. The competition was fierce, none of the teams managed to break away. So literally it was the last race that turned the scales”, said Alexander Popkov, a yachtsman from “INTERSAN plus” team. “We are planning to take part in the same series of PROyachting Fun Race this season, too, as well as join the J/70 Russian Cup”.
