About Sunseeker shipyard
Sunseeker International was founded in 1969 in the town of Poole on the south coast of England by Robert Braithwaite, a yachtsman and a powerboat racer. Having started with making open sports powerboats, in the 1980-90s the shipyard switched to larger cruisers and yachts, but never forgot their ‘racing roots’, as they went on manufacturing high-performance models. This has largely determined the brand’s philosophy up to present: all Sunseeker models are not just comfortable, but fast, too, and it is for the sake of reaching high speed that the shipyard experimented with water jets and Arneson drives a lot.
Highlights
Today Sunseeker yachts reach their performance characteristics mainly due to the maximum efficiency of their hull design. Sunseeker models are equipped not only with a classic shaft drive, but also IPS pods, while larger superyachts might also have hybrid power plants. The shipyard specializes in planing GRP hulls, and they started using aluminium for large superyachts. Sunseeker style is always refined, a little aggressive and easy to recognize. The shipyard pays a lot of attention to customization: their Bespoke program assists customers in developing their yacht’s individual interior, including the opportunity to attract some of the world’s best designers.
Achievements
Sunseeker yachts and performance boats can be seen in four James Bond films: "The World Is Not Enough", "Die Another Day", "Casino Royale" and "Quantum of Solace", where Robert Braithwaite, the founder the company, played the part of a captain. Sunseeker models have received numerous prestigious international awards.
