Today 16 concepts have already been unveiled, and one more is likely to appear shortly
Oceanco announced the launch of Simply Custom project at Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show 2023. The goal of the project is honest and practical in a true Dutch way: help customers find their one and only Oceanco yacht.
"We have owners who are time-poor and have less desire to focus on every detail in the process," explained Oceanco’s group marketing director, Paris Baloumis. "They expect to entrust technical matters to experts like Oceanco and our partners. And, perhaps most importantly, they want building a yacht to be simple and fun".
As a result of the shipbuilders’ collaboration with designers there appeared “The Collection”, which is still being enriched (we have already told you about one of the concepts from Enrico Gobbi’s team, inspired by automotive and aviation design). Not a single platform in the history of yachting industry can boast such a number and such a high level of exterior and interior interpretations. Moreover, having chosen a concept to their liking, customers can customize the exterior or change the interior completely.
The technical foundation for “The Collection” is a reliable, technically advanced and eco-friendly 80-meter platform from British Lateral Naval Architects with a state-of-the-art all-electrical or hybrid propulsion, variable speed generators offering high fuel efficiency and a capability to run on low-carbon biodiesel, a SCR exhaust system for low emissions and definitely exceptional seakeeping, noise and vibration standards that Oceanco is renowned for.
The main reason Oceanco opted for the length of 80 meters and the interior volume of 2500–2700 GT is that they don't want to be pigeonholed into the market of 100+ plus yachts. Besides, this niche is one of the most sought-after in the market. Another obvious reason is that in some Mediterranean countries cruising restrictions are tighter for superyachts over 80 metres.
“Ocean’s Eleven” is not the only movie association that can be found in Oceanco's concepts. In January 2024 Igor Lobanov and Anna Bas from Lobanov Design unveiled their futuristic Interstellar concept, while an international team from «the Touch Studio» revealed their Dunes, inspired by the play of sand waves.
The word ‘Simply’ in the name of the project inspired the renowned Espen Øino for the creation of an amazingly clean and slender Clarity, and the British team from Winch Design, gazing at the Thames out of their windows of their studio in London, came up with an arrestingly light and airy Reverie.
Despite the obvious success of the project, Oceanco is definitely not going to give up building fully custom yachts in favor of ‘simply custom’ ones: “Custom building is a core part of our DNA; we will always create yachts that are uniquely tailored to each owner. And we see Simply Custom as a logical development for Oceanco, sitting alongside our fully custom yachts, which will always be a part of our offering. The feedback so far has been overwhelmingly positive, and we have experienced a definite appetite for this new way of buying an Oceanco,” said Marcel Onkenhout, Oceanco’s CEO.
