Hydro Tec studio was in charge of Alexa’s exterior and naval architecture, while all the technical works of highest quality were done in-house
As the yacht is expected to cover thousands of miles a year, it was extremely important to ensure reliability of onboard systems, convenience of daily handling and upkeep, as well as to choose the materials that will endure the most severe conditions.
Alexa’s interiors were entrusted to Floris Design studio, which has been working with the yard since its foundation:
“The brief from the Owner was to have a practical and functional boat without sacrificing elegance and comfort. The yacht can host up to nine guests in four cabins skillfully arranged on the Lower Deck, which also features a spa with a sauna, shower, and relaxation area. The spa is available to all guests but can be transformed into a private area connected to the owner’s cabin via a sliding door. The overall ambiance exudes relaxed and conspicuous elegance, achieved through a warm color palette that blends earthy tones into a well-balanced ensemble,” said Pierluigi Floris.
As the owner plans to sail the yacht for long periods at the highest latitudes, Alexa features enhanced scantlings in the hull and rudders to be able to cope with icy conditions.
The upper deck stern terrace is built in steel, and not aluminium. All the floors are heated, and the cockpit may be closed to allow the guests to enjoy the landscape even in cold weather.
With a length of 26.10 m and a beam of 7.43 m, Alexa’s internal volume is 206 GT. Social areas both on the maind and upper decks fearture custom-made furniture, as well as free-standing furniture from renowned manufacturers. The crew quarters are located on the main deck forward next to the galley and a large crew mess, and have direct access to the wheelhouse on the upper deck.
Among the owner’s special requests there was a a fourth helm station on the sundeck and two additional fridges for storing garbage during long passages.
The new Darwin 86 with a steel hull and an aluminium superstructure is equipped with twin Man engines of 500 hp each, which deliver a top speed of up to 11.5 knots. At a cruising speed of 11 knots the yacht has a range of up to 4000 nautical miles without refuelling.
“All explorer yachts built by Cantiere delle Marche are known for their inherent quality and superior technical equipment, making them unparalleled in seaworthiness, redundant equipment, robust steel hulls, spacious engine rooms, and ample storage. These features, combined with efficient fuel consumption and remarkable range, define our philosophy that ‘good enough’ is never sufficient, especially for long-distance, adventurous cruising. We can safely say that the Darwin Class has undoubtedly become a benchmark in the explorer yacht market. We are deeply grateful for the invaluable assistance provided by the Aberton Yachts team. Entrusted by the Owner, they expertly managed the Alexa project from start to finish,” said Vasco Buonpensiere, co-founder and CEO of CdM.
