The Dutch shipyard built Project Orion on spec, and are currently looking for potential buyers
With a hull and a superstructure of aluminium, exterioir design by Omega Architects, and interiors by Cristiano Gatto Design, this hybrid superyacht is the latest addition to the yard’s 50m Aluminium FDHF series.
Modern exterior design by Frank Laupman of Omega Architects stands out for an almost vertical stem, expansive glazing and an ample bow section, capable of storing tenders and water toys, as well as a low sporty profile.
The superyacht was built on the basis of a well-tried and tested Fast Displacement Hull Form (FDHF) devised by Van Oossanen Naval Architects.
In addition, the yacht is equipped with a hybrid propulsion system optimising efficiency at various speeds. Two diesel MTU 12V 2000 M61 engines (compliant with IMO III) generate a total of 1200 kW (1631 hp) and allow the yacht to reach a top speed of 16.3 knots. According to the shipyard, at a speed of 12 knots the superyacht will consume just 98 litres of fuel per hour. In a hybrid mode, her fuel consumption will be 45 litres per hour at a speed of 10 knots.
As for Project Orion’s interiors, Italian designer Cristiano Gatto focused on natural light and contact with the sea. There are six cabins for 12 guests, including the owner’s suite on the main deck, a full-beam VIP cabin and four cabins below deck.
According to the shipyard, “open bulwarks enhance the sense of space and connection to the sea, making the yacht ideal for both private and charter use”.
“Project Orion presents a rare opportunity for discerning clients to acquire a superyacht that embodies the unrivalled safety and solidity of Dutch craftmanship, ready to cruise by spring. To have immediate access to such exceptional quality – engineered for both style and security – is truly extraordinary. By summer, Project Orion will be poised to navigate the oceans, setting a new standard for luxury,” commented Ruud van der Stroom, Heesen’s Chief Commercial Officer.
Over the next few months, the new vessel’s systems will be commissioned and prepared for intensive trials in the North Sea scheduled for February. Project Orion is currently available for sale asking €45,900,000.
