The owner, who is a young, entusiastic and quite experienced sailor, was inspired by the success of the Kalantis’s predecessors: the Gelliceaux (built in 2023) performed brilliantly in regattas, and the Kiboko 4 (2024) was crowned the Sailing Yacht of the Year at the World Superyacht Awards 2025
“The brief of the owner was very clear and ambitious: to enjoy full comfort while exploring remote parts of the world, and, at the same time, to compete on the race courses with real intention,” explained Southern Wind CEO Marco Alberti.
The initial SW108 project designed by Southern Wind in collaboration with Nauta Design (for exterior and interior) and Farr Yacht Design (for architecture and engineering) features a number of noticeable changes.
The yacht's design itself remained the same: the hull, deck and bulkheads are of advanced composite sandwich with carbon / epoxy resin with a high modulus carbon mast and boom and titanium deck fittings. Thanks to the use of these materials, the displacement of this 35.31-metre vessel is just 74.2 tons, while the lifting keel (4-6.2 m) and two rudders make the Kalantis really maneuverable.
The exterior, as well as the deck and interior layouts have been reconsidered in accordance with the yard’s Smart Custom philosophy.
Taking into account the owner’s wish to maximise natural light, the yard redesigned the coachroof, which now features a T-shaped skylight allowing for a forward view, too.
Another highlight is the Kalantis’s Seaside Lounge aft. When folded away, the yacht’s innovative maintains her sleek, sporty lines. It can also link the aft cockpit directly to the expanded swim platform, turning the aft section into a beach club with enough space for sunbeds.
The aft garage is dedicated to water toys, so the 5.2-metre is stored in a custom-designed foredeck recess. When it is launched, the recess becomes another lounge area with the help of pillows.
Inside, the SW108#03 features a four-cabin configuration. The forward VIP-suit that the owners refer to as the Petit Salon, can transform into a studio or a cabin. There is an L-shaped social area amidships, which feels huge thanks to the beam of 7.51 m and abundance of natural light. As the galley has been moved aft, where there are all the crew areas, including three crew cabins, everything inside the saloon is meant for recreation and relaxation. It comprises living and dining areas, as well as a TV lounge.
The Kalantis’s performance characteristics will be made public later, after the sea trials that are scheduled to complete by the end of 2025.
