Marina Motril will be capable of accommodating 700 vessels

The new Marina Motril will replace the existing Club Náutico de Motril and dry berths, while its total area will be about 100 000 sq.m

According to the project, Marina Motril will be capable of accommodating 700 vessels: about 450 wet berths and 250 dry ones. The project was develpp[ed by Marina Motril SL, a joint venture between the current operator and Granada-based energy group Grupo Cuerva. Construction is scheduled to begin in March 2026 and to complete in 2028.

The lead architect for the project is Chapman Taylor firm. Their plan is to unite port infrastructure and public spaces, as well as link the city centre to the waterfront and the wider Mediterranean. The marina’s exterior design draws on Mediterranean and Nazarí architectural influences, as well such a gem of Islamic architecture as the palace and fortress complex Alhambra.

The commercial area of 15 000 sq. m will be home to retail, restaurants, a market and artisan shops. The new yacht club will offer two pools, a gym, coworking and event spaces and an underground car park for 600 spaces.

There is also a plan to create the Aula del Mar, a marine research centre in partnership with the University of Granada and a dock for small sailing craft and water sports.

The repair yard of 21 000 sq. m will be equipped with two travel lifts (110 and 450 tonnes), which will make the Marina Motril the largest repair yard in the southern Mediterranean.

Marina Motril will be powered by renewable energy, forming part of the Green Motril initiative led by Cuerva and generate over 150 jobs. At present, Granada’s coastline offers 427 mooring points between Marina del Este (227) and Club Náutico de Motril (200). The new Marina Motril will more than double this capacity and become the first major expansion since 1988, which will definitely support tourism, hospitality, retail and marine services.

Based on the preliminary data, the project’s cost is over €30 mln.
