Saudi Arabia is no longer a closed country and over the last years it has been positioning itself as a destination for luxury tourism
Vision 2030 strategy is aimed at the diversification of national economy currently dominated by oil industry. As part of this project, the Kingdom is investing actively in tourism and marina infrastructure.
Back in 2017, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman announced NEOM and Red Sea Global initiatives, aimed at marinas and their infrastructures development along the Red Sea and the Gulf coastlines.
2021 was the opening year for Jeddah Yacht Club and Marina, capable of accommodating yachts up to 120 m. It was inaugurated for the Jeddah Formula 1, the track of which sits at the back of the club, so the race could be watched right from the yachts. In December 2023 this marina hosted another world-class event, the America’s Cup preliminary regatta.
The focus of NEOM project is the development of urban area in Tabuk at the northern tip of the Red Sea, not far from Egypt and Jordan. There is also a national park founded by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman in 2018. NEOM comprises over a dosen projects, covering the area over 26,500 sq.km.
Located close to the Suez Canal and the Gulf of Aqaba, Sindalah Island marina is scheduled to open this year. It can accommodate yachts up to 50 m and has offshore buoys for superyachts up to 180 m. There will also be hotels, apartments, sport and beach clubs, and a lot more.
The largest marina project scheduled to be complete by 2030 is The Line. Its marina will be capable of accommodating up to 2,000 yachts, and the Line City will redefine the urban concept on the area of 34 sq. km, with no fossil fuel cars or harmful emissions.
New marinas are also planned in the Gulf of Aquaba (Jaumur and Norlana projects).
