The Maddalena archipelago is located in the Strait of Bonifacio off the northeast coast of Sardinia

This area is quite popular among yachtsmen, as it consists of numerous islands and islets and is also a national park. To visit La Maddalena Park one has to get a special permission and follow the local rules and regulations, including the bans on visits to particular areas.

Since 6 August 2024 new regulations have come into effect, the violation if which may result in administrative fines from €276 to €1,377. Let us try figuring out what has changed in simple words:

  • Anchoring is prohibited from 9 pm to 8:00 am throughout the park’s marina area for all recreational vessels, including the boats engaged in rental and leasing, as well as those used by sailing schools, for diving and snorkelling.
  • Nighttime stays from 9 pm to 8 am are allowed at mooring buoys installed by the Park Authority only. They are not suitable for boats over 15 metres. Besides, the vessels must be equipped with sewage collection tanks.
  • The use of mooring buoys designated for passenger transport vessels is prohibited for any recreational vessel (boats, yachts, dive boats, etc.) from 9:30 am to 5 pm.

Make sure you remember the new regulations when planning a trip to Maddalena islands, as it will save you from trouble and rather high fines.
