The previous large-scale renovation projects took place in 2007 and 2010, when Valencia was home to the America’s Cup. As a result of the current redevelopment, Marina Port Valencia will be capable of offering a considerably wider range of services not only for yachtsmen, but for tourists, too
The key four strategic areas of the project are the construction of marinas for boats of 6-130 metres; a boatyard specialized in repair and integral refit; a business space with offices and commercial spaces for entrepreneurs; a leisure and entertainment area that will integrate the marina in the city space.

The first stage started last September with reconstruction of the docks and a goal to make them more modern and sustainable. Later on, with the support IPM-IMG Group and Ocibar, which are well-known for their experience in big redevelopment projects of this kind, Marina Port Valencia will get three different water areas: Marina Sur for yachts of 10-115 m, Marina City for yachts of 12-130 m, and Marina Norte for yachts of 24-60 m.
Another significant feature of this project is the refit yard. The 80 000 square meters of technical area will be designed to provide refit and repair services to boats of up to 130 m on the water and up to 60 m on the shore. The yard will be equipped with a 700-tonne travellift, one of the most advanced to date, while there will also be Dry Dock Valencia, which is a modern facility with automated yacht handling and storage systems. The innovations will not only optimise the space, but ensure greater safety, efficiency and convenience, particularly for the owners looking for specialised wintering solutions.

The embankment and customs dock will undergo a comprehensive upgrade, too. One of the main local sights, the Edificio del Reloj (the Clock Tower), which is home to the port administration, will also be renovated. This 1916 building, topped with a weather vane shaped as a sailboat, is a well-known landmark of the city.
Marina Port Valencia is expected to go far beyond the port area. It’ll be a business area with coworking spaces, retail units, restaurants and event venues. The spectacular landscaping is set to change the area considerably: a broad, tree-lined boulevard of more than 23 000 sq.m will connect the port with the city of Valencia and become an exceptionally convenient space for recreation and entertainment.
Local authorities believe the project will help Valencia reconfirm its role both in international yachting industry and tourism in general.
