The superyacht christened Orion is the latest hull in the 50m Aluminium FDHF series and the third vessel delivered by the shipyard this year
The Orion’s exterior created by Frank Laupman and his Omega Architects stands out for bold lines, a vertical bow and large floor-to-ceiling windows, allowing natural light to flood the interiors.

With the internal volume of 499 GT, the superyacht can offer six cabins for up to 12 guests, including the owner’s suite and a full-beam VIP cabin.

Cristiano Gatto’s team tailored the interior to the owner’s vision and lifestyle, offering a modern, elegant style and bespoke furniture. According to the shipyard, the interior features 37 different materials, including exquisite Italian marble, high-gloss woods and woven leather.

As the third vessel in the shipyard’s advanced 50-metre Fast Displacement Hull Form aluminium series equipped with hybrid propulsion, the Orion is capable of cruising silently at a speed of up to 10 knots with reduced fuel consumption and compliance with all eco-conscious yachting standards. During the sea trials in the North Sea, the superyacht exceeded all expectations and demonstrated superb seaworthiness.

With twin MTU 12V 2000 M61 (IMO III) engines, the Orion can reach a top speed of 16.3 knots and has a range of 3750 nautical miles at 12 knots, consuming just 98 litres of fuel per hour without excluding hotel load. When in hybrid mode at 10 knots, this drops to just 45 litres per hour Thanks to the draft of 2.15 m, the superyacht is perfect for cruising both the Mediterranean and the Bahamas.

“Our expertise in lightweight aluminium construction, combined with the efficiency of the Fast Displacement Hull Form and the advanced hybrid propulsion system make ORION an exceptional yacht. This synergy doesn't just result in reduced environmental impact and enhanced longevity for the yacht's components; it delivers an unparalleled experience for the owners – quiet, efficient, and versatile cruising, allowing them to explore diverse destinations with ease and comfort. ORION is a perfect example of Heesen's commitment to marrying performance, efficiency, and luxury," said Peter van der Zanden, Head of Engineering at Heesen Yachts.
The Orion will join Ocean Independence fleet soon and will be available for charter.
