The new 20-metre X-65 model will become an addition to the growing Xtreme fleet. She will be all-steel and offer a combination of a cruiser featuring naval architecture by Trimm Design and a trawler type superstructure similar to other yachts in the series
As the owner of the first X-65 has plans to cruise Northern European waters and the Norwegian fjords, he wanted a super robust hull, ample storage and practical, but non-trivial interior spaces.
“The client liked the Xtreme lines and the design of the boats, and he asked us to draw a yacht specifically made for his needs that also carried the design cues of the other Xtreme models. That DNA is evident in various aspects of her design – the long glass recess in the hull is very similar to the one found on the X-78, as is the superstructure, and the line of the top of the bulwark is similar across all Xtreme models,” says Bernd Weel, principal of Bernd Weel Design.
One of the yacht’s standout features is her split-level living area forward. There is a saloon with a galley and a spacious dining area at the main deck level, and a cozy office area with a television lounge below with access both to the cabin forward and to the master suite amidships. Although there are just two cabins on board, the television lounge mentioned above can be turned into a cabin, too, by converting the sofa into a double bed. The yacht's interior is owed to Kitty van der Kamp.
The only helm station is located on the main deck forward, and its central position ensure excellent visibility and an opportunity to communicate with the guests.
“She is made for longer trips, and on the layout, the key was to have enough space for the family to stay on board,” comments Bernd Weel. “She is an ideal cruiser, particularly for Northern European waters and coasts around the world that require a yacht that has more capabilities than standard production models!”
On board the X-65 there is enough space for storing all kinds of equipment thanks to the huge aft garage. “That’s something she borrows from her larger siblings – I was actually really surprised when I saw the garage for the first time in real life, because there’s a lot of volume in the back. It means you can really put a lot of gear and equipment there, from big water toys, bicycles or electric scooters to an extra fridge or freezer for extended cruising. I think it’s a real USP of this model,” continues Bernd.
The exterior spaces were designed for the guests to spend a lot of time here during long voyages. There is ample seating and a dinette on the foredeck, and a forward-facing settee that can convert into a sunpad.
“The aft cockpit has a pretty cool set-up,” says Bernd. “On a lot of models there’s a U-shaped sofa at the stern and you end up looking forward into the saloon. On the X-65 we have two L-shaped sofas to the sides with very social tables, which means you look aft and out over the water. And along with a transverse aft sofa, you can have a really big group of people here”.
The large hydraulic swimming platform does not only serve as a beach, but features a bench sofa hidden in the transom door, and can also be used for launching and retrieving a tender.
“The design is modern and sits perfectly among her siblings in the Xtreme range, and the fact that this model, like the others in the range, was born from a client request makes me really proud,” Bernd Weel concludes.
