With its latest X70 Shadow, Italian shipyard Extra Yachts (part of Palumbo Superyachts) aims at several functional niches in one go
With a planing hull, this GRP yacht is positioned as versatile and capable of raising the bar for industry standards. As the project’s name suggests, the X70 Shadow was designed as a full-fledged chase boat, offering extra capabilities to the larger mothership. However, the X70 Shadow’s level of comfort and performance characteristics also make her a perfect model for day trips and quick connections to the mainland, when the mothership is far from the coastline.
Both exterior and interior design of the new project is owed to Lorenzo Berselli of Agon Studio. The signature Extra Yachts exterior features precise, sculptural shapes borrowed from industrial design. The interior is based on a radically open layout, designed not only to maximise the living space, but also to create a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor spaces.
In spite of compact length of 21 m, the number of lounging areas is impressive. There is a large area measuring over 40 sq.m at the stern, right by the water, where one can arrange a beach club with free standing furniture or use it for storing extra fleet: a 5.2-metre jet tender, two jet skis, two motorcycles, or a 6.5-metre daysailer. The covered storage area of approximately 15 sq.m is capable of housing seabobs, foil surfboards, SUPs and other water toys. As ab option, this space can also be configured as a gym.
Five steps amidships lead to a spacious cockpit, featuring a large convivial area with an outdoor galley and a generous dining area that converts into a lounge. Fold-down bulwarks open up the view and add even more space
At the bow, there is a wheelhouse and an enclosed dining area, offering 360-degree panoramic views.
Two layouts are possible below deck. The "shadow" version includes two crew cabins with private bathrooms, a galley with a crew mess and one or two cabins for the mothership guests. The “pleasure” layout version offers four guest suites and is meant for independent cruising.
The yacht will be powered by twin Volvo Penta IPS D13 1350 engines of 1,000 hp each, which can deliver a top speed of 30 knots and a cruising speed of 26 knots.
The X70 Shadow project combines performance, load capacity, modularity and a contemporary lifestyle. Extra Yachts’ motto for the new project is “A new way to experience the sea. A new way to be EXTRA”. And there is no doubt that the X70 Shadow can broaden the boundaries of marine design, indeed.
