Oceanco and Lloyd's Register to build 130-metre megayacht
The contract was signed at the Monaco Yacht Show 2025. Lloyd's Register certified the Oceanco 130m as the world’s largest yacht support vessel ever built in the Netherlands
Prior to this, the largest private vessels in Dutch shipbuilding history were the sailing Koru (127 m) by Oceanco and the 120-metre motor Tanzanite by Damen Yachting. The latter was launched in Galati, Romania, in 2023, with the outfitting currently at the final stage in Vlissingen and the delivery scheduled for 2026.
The news about the superproject named Y727 appeared at the turning point for Oceanco: earlier in 2025, the company was acquired by American billionaire Gabe Newell, whose intension is "to expand the shipyard's horizons". By the way, the CEO of Valve, a company that develops computer games and distributes them digitally, could appreciate Oceanco's potential when he commissioned his 111-metre Leviathan, whose technical launch took place this summer.
Newell emphasised that his position would not be limited to investment and he would like to take part in the creative process, too. However, he does not want to make any immediate changes, because he believes that Oceanco’s culture, strategy and priorities should remain unchanged. He also suggested drawing on his experience in technology development
“Just about everything I’ve been involved in over the years has moved some aspect of technology forward in a way that benefits customers. Over time, we will start to identify interesting technologies, prototype them and move them into production. But for now, there’s important work to do simply supporting what Oceanco already does brilliantly,” said Newell.
One of the priorities was the acquisition of system integrator Alewijnse, which joined Oceanco, Lateral, Mercury and Aluship within the Oceanco Group. Newell said it was part of a broader strategy of expansion aimed at greater integration and collaboration across industries.
According to the shipyard, the 130-metre yacht will stand out for “unmatched capabilities, design sophistication and operational range". With a beam of 20.6 m the vessel’s internal volume is 11 061 GT. Construction is scheduled to complete by 2030.
“This vessel represents not only a leap in scale but also in ambition,” said Marcel Onkenhout, CEO at Oceanco. “Oceanco has embarked on an ambitious next chapter, pushing further on design, innovation and sustainability. Collaborating with Lloyd’s Register ensures that our boldest visions are realised with uncompromising safety and quality.”
