The first rumours about the upcoming acquisition appeared in the media in the spring of 2024, but the news has been officially confirmed only at the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show
The new owners are American Lionheart Capital firm and Italian Orienta Capital Partners. The fee has not been disclosed, so one can only guess it might be over 320 million pounds that Chinese Dalian Wanda Group paid for it back in 2013.
And there is every reason to think so: in 2023 Sunseeker’s order book was 625 mln pounds, while the projection for 2024 is 284 mln pounds. The shipyard has invested considerably in updating its model range. As part of the long-term development plan, it has unveiled a few new models received more than favourably both by the clients and yachting industry professionals.
It is also known that Sunseeker headquarters and production facilities will remain in Pool, and that the investors are not planning any radical changes. The key goal set for the shipyard and announced to the press is to reassert the yard among its Italian competitors.
The task of catching up with Italians has naturally been entrusted to Italians: Giancarlo Galeone, co-owner of Orienta Capital Partners, who had previously had an executive role in Ferretti Group, and the current Sunseeker CEO, Andrea Frabetti, who has already been quite successful trying to make the British shipyard more Italian recently.
