In their constant search for inspiration, jewellery designers sometimes find it in the most unusual places
And that is how a unique piece of jewellery inspired by the sea and the outline of a Sanlorenzo yacht came into being. The idea of collaboration was born back in May 2024 at the British Motor Yacht Show, where Sanlorenzo organizsed a tour of its SL90A yacht for the W&W Jewellery team.
Soon after that, W&W came up with a selection of gemstones that formed the basis of a jewellery concept, designed to capture the essence of Sanlorenzo, and designer Narell Mallée created her first sketches. The favourites of the selection were a stunning blue oval zircon and a pair of cushion-cut peach bi-coloured tourmalines, reminiscent of the ocean’s hues when the sun dips below the horizon.
The abundance of details, shapes and textures, staircases and sleek curves of the vessel fuelled the designer’s creativity. The only challenge left was to decide which direction to choose.
Narell Mallée identified three possible concepts. The first one was inspired by the shape of the Sanlorenzo SL90A bow. The second was pulling from the sleek shape of the boat’s flybridge. And the third one was sparked by the gentle slope of one of the windowsills, reminiscent of sea waves.
Finally, they went for the Bow Concept, which stood out not only for its aesthetic appeal, but also for its meaningful symbolism. Initially the curves of the Sanlorenzo SL90A were envisioned as a pair of drop earrings, but in the end, they turned into 66 links of a necklace.
The central element is the 6.50 ct blue oval zircon, whose facets showcase the richest palette of the sea in different lighting. The articulated and graduated platinum links are set with over three hundred and fifty round brilliant cut diamonds totalling 3.50 ct.
The design titled The“Of the Sea” Necklace is now available to commission.
