Royal Huisman refers to the Sky as a true “XXL superyacht” and promises that she’ll sail faster than the wind or a similar length motor yacht
The yacht’s exterior and engineering are owed to British Malcolm McKeon Yacht Design, whose previous collaboration with Royal Huisman resulted in the 60-metre Sarissa, winner of 10 prestigious awards in 2024.
The new concept features a full-aluminium hull with a long waterline, a lift keel and two carbon composite rudders. The 93-metre carbon mast and all the rig will be supplied by Royal Huisman’s partner, Rondal. The Sky is set to beat the M5’s record (ex. Mirabella V, built in 2023), which features a 90-metre mast.
The area of the sailplan has not been revealed yet, but the yard promises that the integrated sailing system will ensure easy, responsive handling and maneuverability, comparable to 50-metre performance yachts.
The Sky’s hybrid propulsion system is based on electric azimuthing pods and four main generators, combined with a battery bank that facilitates silent, fumeless, zero-emission operation and peak-shaving. The system marked with Lloyd’s “Hybrid Power” certificate will also be capable of regenerating energy when sailing.
“Sky represents the next evolution of performance sailing yachts, a project that challenges convention in both scale and elegance,” explains designer Malcolm McKeon. “From the outset, our goal was to create a yacht that combines the exhilaration of pure sailing with the comfort and sophistication of world cruising.”
12 guests will be able to enjoy open-air living on the flybridge and in the beach club aft with an extendible swim platform, a full-beam mid lazarette with folding platforms on both sides and a cockpit with folding bulwarks.
The yacht’s interior will be entrusted to British Winch Design, whose head, Andrew Winch, describes the concept in the following way:
“Sky is the next generation of sailing yachts with a unique signature in design for a true sailor and innovator”.
Royal Huisman is confident that it is precisely this kind of visionary who will become the owner of the Sky. Most of the project’s production engineering is already done, so the yacht is ready to be built. If there’s an owner soon, she can be delivered in the spring of 2030.
