Almax is also the yard’s first vessel to feature Hidden Engine Room system, which made it possible to modify traditional superyacht interior configuration dramatically
The first unit of the revolutionary 50Steel model has been launched at Sanlorenzo facility in La Spezia. The exterior design of the superyacht has been created by Zuccon International Project and has largely preserved the shipyard’s aesthetics, but added some explorer features to her. Traditionally the interiors of the first unit were crafted by maestro Piero Lissoni.
Almax is the world’s first superyacht to accommodate the modular Reformer-Fuel Cell system. It is capable of transforming green methanol into hydrogen and then into electricity, which will be able to power all the yacht's hotel equipment like AC and lighting, and to recharge the batteries. As hydrogen as such is not stored on board, the yard managed to avoid rather a serious problem related to its safe storage, which we have already told you in the article on Project 821 от Feadship.
Sanlorenzo 50Steel can generate up to 100 kW кВт without starting the engines and generators, which means that diesel will not be used at anchor and the system is carbon-neutral. According to the yard, this mode may take up as much as 90% of the superyacht’s operating time
The Hidden Engine Room system patented recently was designed to fee maximum space below deck for interior guest and crew spaces. Instead of a traditional two-level layout, Sanlorenzo made the propulsion equipment horizontal and one-level, as well as offered a new idea of technical areas distribution. The area where the engine room would normally sit can be used as an extra Ocean Lounge, connected to the beach club of 150 sq.m, with a pool and fold-out terraces. The four guest rooms on the lower deck are now conveniently connected to the gym and spa areas.
From the main deck saloon, the guests can go up to a middle deck, where there is a dining area, leading up to another saloon on the upper deck. This solution allowed the shipyard to increase the ceiling heights in some areas up to 3.35 m, which is quite rare for 50-metre yachts. Besides, the middle deck houses a full-beam ensuite master cabin with an office and a dressing room.
"With the launch of the 50Steel, Sanlorenzo celebrates a fundamental milestone in its history, in the spirit of innovation and sustainability. The new line of superyachts embodies the pioneering spirit and passion for challenges that have always guided us in the design and construction of our fleet," said Massimo Perotti, chairman and CEO of Sanlorenzo. "I believe what sets us apart is the ability to drive industry innovation, embracing cutting-edge technology and sustainability to achieve the ambitious goals of reducing our environmental footprint."
According to the shipyard, four Sanlorenzo 50Steel hulls have already been sold, and the delivery of Almax to her owner – Massimo Perotti – is due in July 2024.
