The upgrade of the port cost $6 million and took four months. It is the first facility of this kind in South Pacific, which makes Fiji one of the leading marine tourism destinations in the region
Port Denarau Marina is part of Denarau Island Resort, located on the eponymous island west of Viti Levu, the largest island in the Fiji archipelago, connected to the mainland by a causeway and making it just a 10-minute drive from Suva, the country's capital, and a 20-minute drive from Nadi International Airport.
The expansion started with dredging works to deepen approach channels and turning basins to make them safe for larger vessels.
The 208-metre jetty extension allowed for adding seven new berths for megayachts. Super Elite Marina System from Marine Structures (Australia) was chosen for the project, featuring elastomeric hinge technology, ensuring shorter installation time, enhanced flexibility and durability. As a result of the expansion, now there are also new utility pedestals supplied by Patron Power and upgraded fuel lines by Pacific Energy.
The upgraded marina offers the guests 63 commercial and 62 private berths, 27 of which can accommodate yachts over 24 m. There are also 16 swing moorings and 26 berths for superyachts with a length of up to 115 m and a draft of up to 5 m. The port’s infrastructure has a 30-tonne travel lift and service facilities. The site is located within a walking distance from hotels, restaurants and shopping centres.
For most yachtsmen, Port Denarau has always been a major attraction on Fiji's west coast, and now, when the upgrade is complete, it will offer them world-class facilities.
“This is more than infrastructure – it is a forward-looking investment in Fiji’s future as the leading superyacht destination in the South Pacific,” said Malakai Naiyaga, Board Chair of Port Denarau Marina.
