The first unit in the new Swan Alloy line was commissioned by Massimo Perotti, Executive Chairman of Sanlorenzo. In 2024 Italian Sanlorenzo Group acquired Finnish Nautor Swan, while the transfer of 100% of the shareholding is planned for 2028
The Swan Alloy 44, construction on which starts in Nautor Swan’s 60th anniversary year, is not just another project. She is the largest sailing yacht in its history and the first one to be built from the material that is new for the yard: it opens the “aluminium era” and marks Swan’s entry into the large aluminium sailing yacht segment.
“For Nautor Swan, this project opens a new chapter. It takes the brand into dimensions never explored before, while remaining faithful to the values that have defined Swan for sixty years,” said Massimo Perotti. “This is my first sailing yacht, and I feel a special emotion after so many motor yachts”.
The Swan Alloy 44 was designed by Malcolm McKeon Design that worked closely with the Italian division of the Nautor Swan Group on preserving the Swan’s iconic aesthetics, while embracing all the structural and design benefits of aluminium.
With a length of 43.50 m and a beam of 9.45 m, the yacht’s internal volume will 299 GT. The telescopic keel will allow for changing the draft from 4.30 to 6.30 m. The mast will be produced by Southern Spars from New Zealan, and the sails by Doyle.
The yacht will feature numerous innovations. Thus, the Swan Alloy 44 will be fitted with a dual-energy technology, building on the dual-power propulsion experience developed by Sanlorenzo and tested on its hybrid models as well as Nautor Swan’s 51, 88 and 128 models. The goal is to achieve full energy autonomy, with onboard generation and storage of energy while sailing.
The interior was entrusted to Paris-based Studio Liaigre, whose founder Christian Liaigre is known for his refined minimalist style and considered a trendsetter in interior design.
Construction on the Swan Alloy 44 started at the Gouwerok Shipyard in the Netherlands, where experts in aluminium yachts have begun welding the first structural sections, including the keel and engine room foundations. When the hull and deck are complete, the yacht will be transferred to the Italian facility in Viareggio for final outfitting. The sailing yacht’s launch is scheduled for 2028.
