The competition is organised by PROyachting company with the support of St Petersburg sailing union
Training took place on Friday in the waters of the Gulf of Finland, and on Saturday the scoring races started.
The first day of the races brought excellent sunny weather and fresh wind of 8-10 knots with gusts up to 15 knots. As a result of five races Sail & Sea team came first with a really good margin. The overall leader of the series, Black Swan, came second, and Amigos team went up to the third line of the competition standings.
“The weather was excellent on the first racing day, it was sunny with a fresh west wind. Our team got ready for this kind of weather conditions, for the strong wind, and we also kept an eye on other competitors. It is really exciting to race for the Cup, as the participants are really strong, and you can learn a lot and gain useful experience”, said Alexandra Lukoyanova, helmswoman of “101” team that has taken part in Saint Petersburg Cup for the first time.
On the final day with a stable wind of 10-15 knots there were five races, as a result of which the leaders managed to keep their positions. Sail & Sea that has won seven out of ten races of the stage became the winner of the third stage of Saint Petersburg Cup.
“The second day of the race was not very good for us, we made mistakes, and there was a false start. But during the last two races we put the things right and managed to widen the lead and come first”, said Vsevolod Kolyada, Sail & Sea bowman.
Black Mamba team got silver medals, as they came first twice. Amigos team that has been in the top five all through the stage came third.
The final stage of J/70 Saint Petersburg Cup will take place at Smolenka yacht port on 27-29 September.
