The 2024-2025 season of Winter Fun Race held for modern sport J/70 class sailing yachts welcomed 31 teams from different cities of Russia
As a result of the final stage, two trios were awarded: best teams of the stage and the winners of the race. The final stage was of special importance for the results of the season, as its participants got double points, which could influence the overall standings dramatically.
14 teams got together to take part in the race, including Andrey Dorokhin’s SELF, Ivan Okorokov’s Sovfracht Sailing Team and Sergey Zhukov’s Black Mamba.
On Friday, the races could not be held due to weak winds, but Saturday and Sunday brought stable winds of 8-12 knots, with gusts of up to 20 knots. As a result of 9 races, Banzai team with 16 points became the winner of the stage.
The silver medals went to SELF team, with a gap of just 3 points from the winners. The bronze of the stage went to Lazy Jybe team with 22.5 points.
The silver in the final stage brought the SELF team the title of the race champion and the Winter Fun Race Challenge Cup.
“It was a good season. Challenging races, strong rivals, particularly those who raced all through the season. Taking into account the fact that I’m not an experienced helmsman, it was really exciting. Nothing like a Sunday-school picnic. Fierce competition, a tiny gap in points, no time to relax”, said Andrey Dorokhin.
The team managed to strengthen its position in the overall standings and increase the lead over the closest rivals, Sovfracht Sailing Team, by 6 points. The bronze medal went to Black Mamba team.
