According to the eyewitnesses, the fire destroyed the hall accommodating the 74.8-metre Honolulu superyacht completely
The local media reported a very fast spread of fire, multiple explosions, flames and black smoke visible dozens of kilometres away. Fortunately, only one member of the yard’s staff was slightly injured and turned for medical help, 24 more employees were seen for suspected smoke inhalation. Over a hundred of other employees were evacuated immediately.
Due to the smoke the pupils of the local schools were sent home, and about 30 residents of the area were asked to leave their homes temporarily.
According to the local news, the fire started at about 9 am in one of the halls on July 2. It spread quickly to other areas of the yard and at about 11 am the walls of the hall partly collapsed.
The local fire brigade and police are still unclear about the cause of the fire. Over 100 emergency personnel and two rescue helicopters were involved in fighting the fire, and about 200 rescue workers and firefighters are still on site.
Later in the evening the news came in that they managed to localize the fire and prevent its further spread to the neighbouring buildings, but as the hall collapsed, the firefighters abandoned the attempts to extinguish it.
The shipyard has not yet confirmed this information officially, but it is quite likely that the 74.8-metre Honolulu superyacht was inside the hall. At present it is completly destroyed, while the yacht inside it is still on fire.
An official announcement from Lürssen Yachts came later: “All necessary evacuation measures were initiated immediately. One person was slightly injured and is receiving emergency medical treatment. The fire brigade and police are on site. We are currently unable to say anything about the cause of the fire."
Early on the morning of July 3 it was reported that the fire at Lürssen facility had been extinguished after over 20 hours. About 400 emergency workers worked on site. The cause of the fire is still unknown, but it might be the yacht inside the hall that was the source of fire.
