The first unit of the Mazu 92 is the recently launched 28-metre yacht named Waterlily

The model is entry-level in the new series of displacement yachts. Two larger models – 112 DS and 132 DS – will appear later. However, it is not quite right to use the term “model” here. The word “series” seems to fit Mazu Yachts better. Not many shipyards in the world are capable of offering an absolutely individual approach to mid-sized yachts, and Mazu Yachts is one of those few that can do it. That is one of the reasons we can see the shipyard’s vessels at Monaco Yacht Show, featuring only the best custom yachts in the world.

Design

The reason the Mazu 92DS is among the finalists of Design & Innovation Awards is her impressive appearance. Turkish Red Yacht Design has developed original exterior and interior designs. The yachts look modern and brutal, reminding of an explorer, but featuring a really expansive glazing of the superstructure and the hull.

Among her other stand-out features are a vertical bow, a raised pilothouse and a two-tone hull design. The hull is made of steel, and the superstructure is of carbon composite. This decreases the weight of the construction and keeps the centre of gravity as low as possible.

Layout and interior

The Mazu 92DS can accommodate eight guests. The master cabin with panoramic windows is located on the main deck forward. There are three guest cabins on the lower deck: two at the bow, and one full-beam (which is over 6 meters) VIP amidships. It can optionally be used as a second master cabin, too.

As for the interior style, it can be fully customized. The Waterlily features light wood and a neutral colour palette with pops of turquoise.

Open decks

A spacious flybridge and a really large bathing platform are competing for the status of the main open recreation area.

The platform is big enough to accommodate a tender and a jet ski, while underway. At anchor the platform can be extended even more with the help of fold-out bulwarks.

Through the glass sliding doors one can get from the platform to the beach club with a bar. There is an al fresco dining area right above the beach club on the main deck aft.

Performance characteristics

Mazu 92DS Waterlily is the world’s first steel displacement yacht powered by Volvo IPS. It has always been believed that this kind of propulsion system is suitable for planing and semi-displacement vessels only. Three units of 800 hp each provide a top speed of 18 knots and a cruising speed of 13 knots at 1,500 RPM. In this case she will have an impressive range of 1100 nautical miles.

Mazu Yachts is currently building two more Mazu 92DS units. One of them is scheduled for launch this year, and the other one is due in 2025.
