Predator 55: new yacht in iconic Sunseeker range
British Sunseeker International unveiled the first Predator model back in 1994
Since that time these performance yachts with a sporty character and luxurious interiors became the best-known range immediately associated with the Sunseeker brand. Since the beginning of the century the shipyard has unveiled 29 Predator models, tailored to meet the evolving demands of owners.
The 17.13-meter Predator 55 released to mark the 30th anniversary of the range is the most compact model. However, the yard considers it to be the pinnacle of the Predator series, as she incorporates “next-level enhancements” and demonstrates the new generation of Sunseeker Predator.
Performance
The Predator 55 boasts amazing performance. With twin Volvo Penta IPS 950 of 725 hp each, the boat trumps anything you might expect. The total 1,450 horsepower delivers up to 36 knots. This impressive power can be accompanied by Volvo Penta’s Dynamic Positioning System and Joystick Docking.
When the owner simply wants to cruise efficiently to the intended anchorage, there is cruise control and Volvo Penta’s Active Ride Control. This technology compensates for head seas, offering comfort on board, while a gyro option mitigates rolling at anchor. Pre-programmed interceptor auto trim tabs ensure easy maneuverability and assist with coordinated turns.
The icing on the cake of this intelligent performance system is Garmin Surround View. Six cameras integrated in the hull structure provide 360-degree visibility, whilst docking without leaving the helm. What has already become commonplace for cars is an ideal solution for first time boat owners.
Exterior
The standout feature of the Predator 55 is the totally transparent hardtop with a 2.5m x 3m sliding sunroof. The side glazing of the superstructure is partially retractable, too. From the viewpoint of space and ergonomics, the stern parts is just great.
Thanks to the fact that the sunpad is brought backwards and hangs over the bathing platform, the cockpit is really ample. There is an open dining area with a sofa and a convertible dining table: it does not only expand, but can change the height, too. There is also a bar and enough space for a couple of extra armchairs.
Under the sunpad there is a garage for a Williams TurboJet 325. In order to launch it, it is enough to open the transom door and lower the hydraulic bathing platform.
Another comfortable lounge is located on the foredeck, which can be accessed by broad and safe side decks. In addition to a sofa, there is a sunpad for three. Below the sunpad there is a generous stowage space, while above there is a carbon fibre sail canopy for sun protection.
Interior
On the main deck there is a spacious saloon with panoramic glazing separated from the aft cockpit by sliding doors. At the request of the customer the galley can be located on the main deck, right at the entrance to the saloon. In this case the galley side units connect with the cockpit wet bar so that with the patio door opened, there is an uninterrupted recreation space.
Or move the galley to the lower deck and put an extra sofa in the main deck saloon instead.
The full-beam 4.93-metre owner’s cabin is amidships. Right upon the entry there is a full-height wardrobe and an extensive ensuite to port. The large double bed sits centrally with a sideboard and optional breakfast seating.
The forward VIP-cabin is almost equally spacious and has an ensuite and plenty of storage.
The area in the middle of the deck can be arranged in many ways. There can be a galley if you don’t want to move it upwards. Another option is a lower saloon with a table and a sofa. Finally, there can be a third twin ensuite cabin.
One should note that the Predator 55 is the first yacht to feature an all-new interior collection, created in close collaboration with Design Unlimited studio.
