The Swan Alloy 44, which is the largest sailing yacht in the brand’s 60-year history, became the most notable project launched after Italian Sanlorenzo acquired Finnish Nautor Swan in 2024
The Swan Alloy 44 sloop marks the Sanlorenzo Group’s entry into the sailing superyacht segment. She is the first model in the new Alloy line of aluminum yachts, which will expand to include a 50-meter version and a ketch-rigged model.
The Swan Alloy 44 is a unique combination of knowledge, craftsmanship and technical capability within one project, as it brings together the best of three great yacht-building cultures: Swan’s Finnish DNA and uncompromising attention to detail, the Netherlands’ world-leading expertise in aluminium shipbuilding, and Italy’s mastery of yacht construction.
The yacht was created by an international team: the naval architecture and exterior design of the Swan Alloy 44 are by Malcolm McKeon, engineering is by Nautor Swan’s Technical Office, and the interiors are by renowned Parisien Studio Liaigre.
The aluminium hull, deck and key construction elements including the keel and engine room foundations, are currently made at Gouwerok shipyard in the Netherlands.
Then the yacht will be transferred to the “heart of Italy’s yacht-building industry”, Viareggio, for outfitting, commissioning and final delivery, scheduled for 2028.
The Swan Alloy 44 stands out for elegant proportions and clean lines typical of the new generation of Nautor Swan superyachts. Unlike traditional angular aluminium hulls, she features rounded base profiles, which gives the silhouette distinctive softness and a dynamic look even at anchor.
“The opportunity was not simply to design the largest Swan ever built, but to imagine what a true Swan could become at this scale”, explains Malcolm McKeon. “A performance yacht should look fast even when standing still, so every line and proportion has a purpose – communicating capability before the yacht even moves. Aluminium gives us the freedom to explore new possibilities, while the elegance and restraint of the design ensure the result remains unmistakably Swan.”
In addition to sails, the yacht features a dual-energy system: its propeller can drive a generator that replenishes the onboard batteries, which reduces reliance on diesel generators during passages and allows more of the yacht’s energy needs to be met using power generated naturally at sea. The Dual Energy system builds on experience gained through Sanlorenzo’s hybrid yacht programme and Nautor Swan projects including the Swan 51, Swan 88 and Swan 128.
The Swan Alloy 44’s key design feature is the connection of interior and exterior spaces. There are enough spaces both for socialising and quiet contemplation. The superstructure’s panoramic glazing and rather large hull windows fill the interior spaces with natural light, ensuring visual contact with the sea.
There are four cabins on board, including a generous master suite forward, a VIP-cabin and two guest cabins, one of which can be transformed into a media room or an additional dining area.
The interior features natural materials, tactile surfaces, understated elegance and minimalist but refined details. The goal is to create “a serene private world, defined by warmth, refinement and simplicity rather than excess”.
