Breitling SuperOcean Automatic: vintage design with hypermodern filling
Breitling believes the newest version is truly versatile: one can wear it not only conquering the depths, but surfing, swimming or just going out to a beach bar or to dinner
The explanation for the vintage features in the exterior of all the seven new models is not just a comeback of fashion for the aesthetics of the 1960-1970s and a reference to the iconic SuperоOcean Slow Motion 1965 collection, but the functionality of the design, too, as the requirements have actually not changed much since that time. Nowadays divers still value all the features ensuring maximum readability: contrast of the dial, large luminescent indices, a clear hand shape. But Breitling has upgraded this watch using the 21st century technologies, modern materials for the case and straps, modifying the mechanism, enhancing water resistance considerably, etc. The company has also made the size range more diverse – 46, 44, 42 and 36 mm – from chunky, pronouncedly masculine models to colourful and elegant more feminine ones.
Breitling SuperOcean Automatic 46 Super Diver
There are two new products of this size that differ only in the colour range: a dial in green or in black and grey camouflage with matching straps.
The 46 х 52.25 mm cases are made of titanium and are 14.50 mm thick, which is about 1.3 mm more than other watches in the collection, as it was necessary to accommodate an anti-magnetic soft-iron inner case. Another new feature is that water resistance has increased up to 1000 metres from the standard 300, which makes the 46 Super Diver the deepest SuperOcean. Besides, there is a bidirectional bezel here with a patented safety lock, which blocks any accidental turns, for example, during decompression stops.
The hands, the indices and the zero mark on the bezel are covered with Super-LumiNova, while the anti-reflective sapphire crystal on both sides makes it easy to see the dial clearly under the water. The watch features a COSC-certified self-winding Caliber 10 with a 42-hour power reserve. Both models come either with a rubber strap or a titanium bracelet.
SuperOcean Automatic 44, 42 and 36
In this collection anyone can find a chronometer to their taste, as Breitling offers a variety of options not only in terms of size, but also case material: stainless steel, bronze or a combination of steel and gold.
Thus, SuperOcean Automatic 44 model of stainless steel looks really fresh thanks to the turquoise dial and a matching strap.
The 42 mm option with 18k red gold case and a strict black-and-white dial will look equally relevant while diving, surfing or having a business meeting. There is also a stainless-steel option with colourful marks and a yellow strap, and there is one with a yellow dial.
The most compact SuperOcean Automatic 36 is mainly white colour with rainbow style markers, red gold bezel and crown.
These models come with Caliber 17, a 38-hour power reserve and the hands that are characteristic of the entire SuperOcean collection: a wide hour hand, a square at the end of the minute hand and a circular tip of the second hand. The water resistance is up to 300 metres. The straps have a folding clasp, which allows for micro-adjustments over rashies and wetsuits.
