New diver watches collections of 2024 offer a variety of products to suit any taste and any purpose. There is something for those who just love diving for pleasure, for adrenaline seekers and for those who value aesthetics above all else
Oris Great Barrier Reef Limited Edition IV
It is not the first collection that Swiss Oris company has devoted to the Great Barrier Reef. Advocating for the preservation of the biota of the largest natural object on the planet, which covers an area of about 344400 sq.km, the watchmakers contribute part of their profits to the development of environmental organizations engaged in the restoration of local coral ecosystems affected by humans.
The design of Oris Great Barrier Reef Limited Edition IV is quite relevant to the theme: the dial features a vertical color gradient ranging from turquoise to dark blue, which looks like the sun rays piercing the water column at the reef. The multi-piece stainless steel case of 43.5 х 13.1 mm is satin-polished and has an engraving of coral on the back.
This watch boasts a water resistance of 300 m – the applied indices and hands can be seen clearly thanks to Super-LumiNova, while the sapphire crystal is complete with AR coating. The unidirectional rotating bezel has a tungsten insert with a 60-minute scale, which is so handy for dive time control.
In-house Calibre 400 automatic movement beats at 28800 VPH and boasts a 5-day power reserve and an impressive accuracy of –3/+5 seconds daily, which is compliant with the COSC-recommended chronometric parameters. The three-link bracelet features Oris patented strap change and quick adjustment systems.
Hamilton Khaki Navy Belowzero Auto Titanium
Hamilton Khaki Navy Belowzero family has been joined by an Auto Titanium model with yellow accents. The previous red and blue version of this watch has starred as a colour indicator of events in Christopher Nolan’s sci-fi thriller, Tenet, where the characters travelled in time. The red stood for the time going forward, while the blue meant it was going backwards. Now the familiar shape comes in a different material and colour range.
An impressive case of 46 by 15,7 mm with four hex-style screws looks as brutal as before, but instead of dark PVD coating now there are cold grey highlights, as it is made of pure titanium. To emphasize the contrast with the matte black dial with a signature zero instead of 12, the hands and hour indexes have become bright yellow, and together with large white figures they ensure excellent readability.
The 24 mm rubber strap with an H-pin buckle in titanium features the same bright “sunny” colour. Despite the seemingly lighthearted colour palette, the watch has not sacrificed any of the functions important for the boldest underwater adventures: they are equipped with a helium escape valve, a sapphire crystal of 5.6 mm, and its water resistance reaches 100 bar (1000 m). A special diving mask embossed on the case back is an unambiguous hint at the watch’s capabilities.
With automatic Calibre H-10 ((base Powermatic) and Nivachron balance spring, the watch features a power reserve of 80 hours. Khaki Navy Belowzero Auto Titanium model is not a limited edition, and has become part of the main collection.
Glycine Sea Kraken
Swiss Glycine brand, known since 1914, has unveiled a limited edition collection of diver’s watch named Sea Kraken. It features a vintage design style of the 1960s, and refers to the skin diver category, which means diving without any special equipment. Its water resistance is not as high as of more “professional” diver’s watches, and therefore it is thinner and looks more elegant.
Three new Sea Kraken products differ in colour of the dial: black, white and ivory. The rest of the design is the same and is quite simple. Stainless steel cases with a diameter of 39 mm and thickness of 12.7 mm. The bezel with a minimalistic scale is unidirectional.
Decoration can be found on the case back only, where there is an engraving of a sailing boat and waves. The hour and minute hands, a round tip of the second hand, hour indexes and zero point glow in the dark thanks to the luminous Super-LumiNova coating. The square date window is integtated at 3 o'clock.
The AR coating inside the sapphire crystal has three layers. Automatic GL224 Calibre (base Sellita SW200-1) comes with a power reserve of 38 hours. The movement features 26 jewels and a beat rate of 28800 VPH. The traditional strap is made of water-resistant matte leather. The water pressure resistance guaranteed by the manufacturer is 15 ATM, or 150 m.
Mido Ocean Star 39
To celebrate the 80th anniversary of Ocean Star collection, MIDO has released a compact diver line named Ocean Star 39 that comprises four models. Their impressive design leaves no doubt about the purpose of this watch: the relief motif in gradients of navy blue and black on the dial resembles evokes the undulations on the water and the seabed. The colour palette supports the same references.
The gradients of navy blue and black or grey and black are clearly associated with the ocean depths. There is also a lighter option of sand colour (which can also be described as champagne) with golden figures on the bezel. And there is also an all-black “night at the sea” version with a black PVD coating contrasting beautifully with the bright yellowish luminous of the hands and indexes. By the way, the latter is the only model out of four that comes with a rubber strap, and not a steel bracelet.
The 'wavy' dial is framed with a flat, second scale, and there is a date aperture at 3 o’clock. The applied indexes and the hour and minute hands feature white Super-LumiNova.
The steel cases of the entire quartet have a 39-mm diameter. The slenderness of just 10.5 mm is partly owed to an absolutely flat saphhire crystal. The case back is decorated with an embossed starfish and waves symbol.
The latest-generation Mido Calibre 72 with 21 jewels and a beat rate of 25200 VPM now features an antimagnetic Nivachron balance spring. The power reserve of Mido Ocean Star 39 is 72 hours, and the water resistance is 200 m.
Bell & Ross BR 03 Diver
In 2024 the BR 03 Diver collection by Swiss Bell & Ross has been supplemented with five new models, which will please the underwater adventurers not only with the exterior, but enhanced movement, too.
Having preserved the square shape and the same size of the case as the previous BR03-92 Diver watch released in 2017 (42 x 42 mm), the manufacturers have opted for the new materials: satin-polished steel and black ceramic. Out of three steel models one can choose a black, blue or white dial, and the ones featuring ceramic are available in matte black and light blue. The crowns match the colour of the bezels with a detailed 15-minute scale for diving.
The new hands and hour indexes have become larger and are filled with white Super-LumiNova. They are pale green on the white dial, and the most expensive blue version’s dial glows all over. The sapphire crystal with AR coating ensures excellent readability even in the darkness of the underwater abyss. In compliance with ISO 6425 requirements the watch’s water resistance is 300 metres.
All five models feature automatic Calibre BR-CAL.302-1 (base Sellita SW300-1), a movement with 25 jewels, a beat rate of 4 Hz. The power reserve has been increased up to 54 hours.
The watches come with a black textured rubber or black ultra-resilient synthetic fibre strap, while the steel model with a blue dial also comes with a matching dark-blue strap.
