With this yacht Ferrari is planning to take part in the world’s major regattas and is allegedly considering the creation of a series of Hypersail One Design monotypes for private owners
It is not the first time that the renowned Italian car builder has taken part in shipbuilding projects: it was involved in the creation of Arno XI hydroplane (1952), Riva Ferrari 32 (late 1980s) and Freccia Rossa concept (2007). But it is the first ever Ferrari sailing project.

“Hypersail is a new challenge that pushes us to go beyond our boundaries and expand our technological horizons,” said Ferrari Chairman, John Elkann. “At the same time, it perfectly aligns with Ferrari’s tradition, drawing inspiration from our Hypercar, three-time winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Designing a yacht for offshore racing is perhaps the ultimate expression of endurance."
Work on the Hypersail started in 2024 at Ferrari’s engineering centre in Maranello with French naval architect Guillaume Verdier at the helm of the design. Ferrari has definitely brought its latests developments from the automotive world to the project, from aerodynamics to energy systems: nine patents for new technological solutions have already been filed, while six more are being prepared now. The technology transfer is not one-way: the experience gained with the development of the Hypersail is very likely to be implemented in the future development of Ferrari cars, too.

The yacht is a racing monohull with a length of 30.48 m and a system of underwater foils. The most notable innovation is the use of a canting keel as the support for one of the foils, with the other two contact points being a foil on the rudder and, alternately, the two lateral foils, which will stabilise her “flight” on three points of contact. It is the first time such a system has ever been applied for the yachts of this category.
Among other Hypersail’s unique features one should mention the fact that she is entirely energy-sufficient: there is just no engine, and all the onboard systems are powered by solar, wind and kinetic energy. Thanks to the rejection of fossil fuel, low level of noise and the state-of-the-art ballast water treatment system, the vessel complies with all IMO Tier III regulations.

A lot of attention has been paid to the Hypersail’s exterior aesthetics, too. The yacht features the signature “Rosso Corsa” red, there are carbon and anodized aluminium finishes in the cockpit and ErgoFit technology is said to be used for the helm seats.
The team led by the renowned ocean sailor and author of a number of racing yachts innovations, Giovanni Soldini, includes eight professional yachtsmen and four engineers.
The Hypersail is scheduled to launch in 2026, after which she will undergo sea trials and take part in some major regattas. Ferrari is also likely to launch this model’s serial production in order to organize its own races in the future, as it finds the premium marine market very promising.
