British Sunseeker shipyard has unveiled the new images of the 36.6-metre 120 Yacht model, which is ‘destined’ to reinvent their fiberglass superyacht fleet

Although as a concept the Sunseeker 120 Yacht was unveiled in the autumn of 2023 at the Monaco Yacht Show, it has already become quite a real project. There appeared images of the exterior and interior areas of the yacht and a number of technical specifications, so we decided to tell you a bit more about the project, which is scheduled for launch in 2026.

Embarking on the update of the model range, the British manufacturer started with smaller models. For a long time the list of ‘fibreglass superyachts’ included the well-known 116 Yacht and 131 Yacht. Now the ‘veterans’ have to move and make room for their new sibling.

There are no doubts that the 120 Yacht has inherited all the breed characteristics. Upon closer inspection, one can discover a lot of similarities with the 116 Yacht, probably except for the “hump” on the foredeck and the fact that the exterior design has become even cleaner and more calibrated. The increased glazed area, bold geometric shapes and a generally contemporary look are a clear reference to the 100 Yacht style, presented earlier. But, as I’ve already mentioned, she does have a lot in common with the 116 Yacht, too, starting from the low position of a hardtop and the sloping glass of the raised pilot house to the signature ‘chevron’ that divides the superstructure side wings into two parts.

Thanks to the high bow that allows one to hide the superstructure visually, the 120 Yacht looks robust, bold and powerful. Her lines reveal her sporty nature and ability to reach the top 20 knots with the twin MTU 12V 2000 engines. However, for now this data is preliminary, and keeping in mind the fact that the shipyard loves powerful performance yachts, one can expect that the real figures may be even higher.

Outside

To my mind, the key transformation has taken place not so much in the look, but in her interior and exterior areas. The shipyard did their best to rethink everything that is possible. Starting from the foredeck, which has lost its technical purpose completely and turned into a spacious lounge area in the sun.

A large area with a C-shaped sofa and tables allows the guests to get together and have breakfast or enjoy the sea views. There is a separate beach with two sunpads and a jacuzzi that seems to float in the air surrounded by the sea on three sides, which is a great solution for those who have a head for heights.

The passage on the starboard side allows one to access the flybridge, which is half-sheltered with a hardtop that can retract completely or let some sun in through the blinds in the central part. There is a dual helm forward and a sofa opposite, followed by a bar an a dining room for 12. Further aft there is a lounge with sofas and armchairs and an area with sun loungers. All in all, the flybridge offeres the guests over 70 sq. m of living space.

Another exterior lounge area is a level lower, in the aft cockpit, where one can descend via the staircase on the starboard side. An unusual feature is a fixed wet bar at the entrance to the saloon, for the sake of which even the shape of glass doors had to be changed and got an unusual curve. There is no conventional dining table with a sofa here: there are freestanding sofas and comfortable armchairs and side tables. It looks like the idea was to create a cozy terrace for socializing and watching TV, as well to unite the cockpit with the beach club area, where one can descend via two broad staircases.

A large sun lounger with a parasol is integrated into the tender garage door to provide the guests with an opportunity to relax right by the water. The rise-and-fall bathing platform can be adjusted to your taste, so in fact you can wet your feet without having to get up from the sofa. By the way, the tender garage is spacious enough not only for a 6-meter tender, but also for two jet skis.

Inside

The British shipyard prefers to work with their own in-house designers, but they make exceptions for some models, and the 120 Yacht is one of them. Known for creating superyacht interiors, British Design Unlimited studio has already collaborated with Sunseeker successfully on a number of projects, which is one of the reasons they were entrusted with the task of creating the interiors. Moreover, the shipyard names Design Unlimited their strategic partner, which is likely to imply that it’s them who will be in charge of Sunseeker superyachts interior style.

The interior space on the main deck of the 120 Yacht is about 122 sq.m. Although the main saloon is an open space, it is  visually zoned into a dining and lounge areas through the use of different colours and materials, as well as two glass framing screens on the port and startboard sides.

There is a generous sofa in the lounge on the port side, and two armchairs with a coffee table opposite. The furniture is quite low not to obstruct the view through the floor-to-ceiling windows. The light that fills the saloon plays with the glossy surfaces of the ceiling and the furniture.

In contrast to the light lounge, the dining area features darker, wooden wall and ceiling surfaces, as well as inserts of noble marble. The shape of the round table for 10 echoes the circles on the floor and on the ceiling.

The galley is located on the port side, while there is access to the owner’s stateroom on the starboard side forward. The shipyard points out that the onwer’s suite has been given exceptional attention in terms of zoning and furniture selection.

There is a small study area at the entrance, followed by a full-beam bedroom area with huge windows. The bed is slightly moved towards the port side to free space for an armchair and a couch with a coffee table on the starboard side.

The bathroom with inserts of matte black metal and wooden and marble surfaces is accessed via a walk-in wardrobe with a vanity desk. According to the shipyard, the highest level of customization is available, so the future owners can tailor the space to suit their taste and needs here.

There are four guest cabins below deck. They are all ensuite and are located opposite each other. There are two double cabins, where the beds stand with headboards to sides. They are separated from the engine compartement with bathrooms to reduce the level of noise. The beds in the twin cabins (with single beds) are arranged in a more traditional way with headboards in the direction of travel.

There are three more crew cabins forward, which can accommodate up to five people, and a crew mess. By the way, the guests and crew flows are separated. The crew have their own access from the main deck to the lower and to the raised pilot house, while the guests move via the central and aft staircases.

Although the British dub the 120 Yacht “a symphony of heritage, innovation and performance”, so far I, personally, have not seen any kind of breakthrough here, which one would normally expect from Sunseeker. It is a beautiful stylish boat with a contemprorary interior that captures the eye. Some layout solutions are a success, while some others, like a fixed bar at the entrance to the saloon, are somewhat puzzling. The exterior and interior areas layouts are fine, and they would be worth mentioning, if there was no 100 Yacht and 116 Yacht, but in fact they are are just an enhanced version of what has already been done.

The feeling is that the shipyard had no intention to create something new, so they just made a beautiful and elaborate boat on the basis of already existing models. We will see whether I am right or wrong when the first 120 Yacht is officially launched.
