Huge sportfishers are getting more and more popular
In spring 2024 Dutch Royal Huisman shipyard completed work on the 52-metre six-deck “fishing yacht” named Special One. Another 34.9-metre sportfisher, Gramac VII, is about to join the “big fishing club” soon. The yacht is currently being prepared for launch at the New Zealand-based Yachting Developments yard. She is scheduled for delivery at the end of 2024.
Gramac VII's hull and superstructure are made of carbon. The design and naval architecture come from Warwick Yacht Design. Rather a small draft of 1.9 m makes the vessel suitable for shallow waters and allows her to come close to reefs and coastlines.
Gramac VII can accommodate up to 10 guests in four cabins. There are crew quarters aft. All the decks’ layouts were designed for the anglers and their “fans” comfort. For instance, there is a spacious cockpit located above the fighting cockpit – the main fishing spot – meant for those on board to watch. Another vantage point is a partly enclosed flybridge with an air-conditioned saloon.
Gramac VII is meant for rather long fishing expeditions: the boat is equipped with water makers, salted and fresh ice makers, large catch chillers and a live bait tank the size of a swimming pool. There is also plenty of stowage space for all kinds of water toys on board.
With twin Rolls Royce - MTU engines of 2600 hp each, designed for this project, Gramac VII can reach a top speed of 20 knots.
