Lotus Marina is quite an unusual project developed by German Structurelab Architects studio
It was designed for the Calanques National Park (Parc national des Calanques), on the Mediterranean coast in Bouches-du-Rhône in Southern France. The park founded in 2012 occupies an area of over 520 sq.km, only 85 sq.km of which is land, and the rest is marine area. In the local language of the indigenous population of Occitania, i.e. the south of France and a number of neighboring regions of Spain and Italy, ‘calanques’ stand for narrow, fjord-like bays surrounded by high cliffs. And there are lots of them in this national park.

Lotus Marina is a floating construction meant for Calanque de Sormiou, one of the largest and most popular calanques in the park, due to its accessibility and a beautiful sandy beach. The structure will be made of recycled materials, including the plastic and wood suitable for the marine environment.

The area of the construction can be extended up to 400 sq.m, as it consists of modules that can be used for docking, or as a hotel, a restaurant, commercial spaces and versatile outdoor areas. The modules will be equipped with solar panels and a rainwater recycling system.

Lotus Marina was designed for vessels under 24 metres, although according to Structurelab Architects, the project can be easily scaled and adapted to other regions.
