The new flagship of the JFA Yachts motor fleet is not only the largest, but also the most technically ambitious project in the history of the French company that also builds sailing yachts and multihulls
The Canoa was designed in collaboration with British Humphreys Yacht Design known for its innovative design principles and bold concepts of sustainable and efficient yachts of the new generation.
The uniqueness of the project is that the Canoa’s hull is aluminium, while the superstructure is of glass-epoxy composite. This combination is quite rare for explorers of this size, although the benefits are obvious: the composite superstructure makes the top part of the vessel lighter, lowers the yacht’s centre of gravity and enhances stability significantly. As a result of extensive hydrodynamic research, the hull that has a length of 49.95 m and a beam of 9.1 m, was optimised to deliver efficient long-range cruising while maintaining higher-speed capability when required.
Another feature worth mentioning is the Canoa’s parallel hybrid propulsion package, which includes twin MTU diesel engines with electric motors to ensure low-emission quiet operation during manoeuvres, at anchor and at low speeds. A substantial battery bank, solar panels and a Dynamic Positioning System reduce the yacht's environmental impact, too. At a speed of 12 knots her range is over 5,000 nautical miles, while her top speed is up 20 knots.
The Canoa’s technical launch took place in January 2026 in Concarneau, France, and the sea trials in the Atlantic proved the explorer’s excellent seaworthiness.
The owner dreamed of a yacht suitable not only for family travels, but also cruising the world. For this reason, the Canoa was designed so that ten guests on board could feel comfortable and like home even on long-range cruises.
There are five comfortable cabins, including the master suite on the upper deck with a private lounge, office and jacuzzi on the exterior terrace. There are four generous guest cabins below deck. The contemporary interior is owed to Milan-based m2atelier studio.
For outings to wild shores in the planet's most remote corners, the yacht boasts an extensive support fleet. Two large tenders (up to 9.2 meters in length) are stowed on the open aft deck, with a C-davit and a powerful deck crane for launching them. There is also a concealed crane forward for a rescue boat and jet skis.
“Our objective was to build a true explorer yacht capable of travelling far, for long periods, and in outstanding comfort, while incorporating innovative solutions to improve energy efficiency. The delivery of Canoa represents the culmination of several years of work and an exceptionally ambitious project," said JFA Yachts president Frédéric Jaouen.
